Shell Energy Operations is responsible for execution of all deals and trades
for Shell Energy which encompasses the Global LNG Business including
Downstream LNG and Gas & Power Trading in Europe and the Americas. Shell
Energy Operations also acts as a talent pool for Shell Energy Commercial.
Shell LNG Marketing & Trading (SLMT) is the Global LNG Trading organisation
and the Commercial Cargo Operator sits within the operations arm of Shell
Trading.
What 's the role?
LNG Commercial operations provide end-to-end commercial operations and
logistical support to SLMT and is as such responsible on a day-to-day basis
for the timely implementation and execution of freight and commercial
transactions to ensure that all obligations arising from LNG contracts and
charter party agreements are met and carried out professionally. This requires
working closely with Traders to maximize value-adds for profitable operations
and minimize any profit leakage from the flexibility and optionality embedded
in LNG contracts and supply programs. Operations are also involved in the
development of projects and new contracts.
The LNG operations team is responsible on a day-to-day basis to implement and
execute commercial deals and review LNG contracts. In addition to cargo
operations, the incumbent may be expected to cover freight operations.
Due to the nature of physical trading operations, out of office hours working
and availability on weekends will be required.
Key Areas of Responsibility
* Ensure that LNG Operations fully complies with Shell's internal standards including compliance and HSSE, paying special attention to HSSE hazards and risks that may have impact on Shell's license to operate.
* Ensure that all obligations arising from contracts are carried out, and that any necessary requirements are complied with.
* Deal with cargo and freight counterparties and terminals on a regular basis regarding all pre- and post-deal activities, ensuring all necessary operational information is passed on in good time and documentary requirements are met.
* Appoint independent inspectors and expeditors.
* Ensure that all operational information is entered accurately into Trading systems.
* Perform cargo invoicing activities as well as diversion calculation/payments and clearances of accruals.
* Ensure accuracy of term and spot cargo pricing and support supply schedules with third parties.
* Review Confirmation Notices and contracts, influencing the deal operability
* Liaise with counterparts to ensure smooth operations, avoid delays, and minimize demurrage costs.
* Multi-task on priorities and think independently whilst dealing with contractual challenges ensuring all are managed professionally and optimally for the trading business.
* Seek to add value by exercising commercial and logistical deal options and pro-active approach to problem solving.
* Carry out contractual volume reconciliations ready for the annual delivery program discussions.
* Manage and ensure that financial securities are in place.
* Manage internal relationships with Traders, Optimisation Traders, Finance, Shipping, and several other teams.
* Manage relationships with external stakeholders, counterparties, and service providers such as suppliers and customers, regulatory bodies, inspectors, and surveyor companies.
* Actively engage with global freight and cargo operations team members across other hubs to ensure operations process alignment, business continuity and commercial added value opportunities and business needs are met.
* Pro-actively close out operational related disputes with external and internal counterparts and support less experienced team members whenever necessary.
* Identify Improvement opportunities and contribute to Continuous Improvement/Operational Excellence projects.
* Whilst key accountability lies with the regional team, the Operator is expected to understand contractual constraints globally and collaborate with the cargo and freight operations teams in other regions to resolve any issues.
* The operator will handle global 24/7 trading activities and whilst colleagues are available in other time zones, the operator is expected to respond flexibly to requests outside of normal office hours.

* Experience in commercial operations (preferably LNG) will be an advantage. Global LNG Operations business vision is to grow a strong pool of commercially savvy teams and therefore an integral part of the role requires strong analytical skills and digital acumen. Candidates who can demonstrate skill in this department will be preferred. This will be assessed as part of interview process.
* A key criterion is to be able to operate within a non-standard environment where the counterparty requires and expects considerable support and at the same time be able to gently introduce standardization and efficiency.
* A high level of fluency in the English language, both written and spoken is required; fluency in Spanish and/or Arabic would also be an advantage.
