The internship position is located in the Regional Office for the Middle East
and North Africa, in Cairo, Egypt. The internship is for a period of ‎6 months
with a starting date in May/June ‎2023.


Under the overall supervision of the UNODC Regional Representative for the
Middle East and North Africa and direct supervision of the Communications and
Visibility Officer, the intern will gain first-hand knowledge and expertise in
UNODC activities relating to communications, advocacy, media, with a specific
focus on creating graphics and designs for the ROMENA website and social
media.


The internship is unpaid and full time. Interns work for ‎5 days per week (‎40
Hours).

Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include:



  • Assist in online translation requests from the beginning until review by the direct supervisor;

  • Edit and ensure quality of translations;

  • Assist in the translation of stories, newsletters, social media content, video scripts and internal messages;

  • Provide feedback and guidance in terminology usage;

  • Contribute ideas to translation, editing and terminology process;

  • Media Monitoring: monitor traditional and online media for stories related to UNODC mandates and produce daily media reports;

  • Support content creation for the ROMENA website (e.g. press releases, articles, newsletters, and web stories related to ROMENA activities/events);

  • Assist in report launches and media enquiries, including media outreach;

  • Assist in organizing meetings, seminars and events to promote wider cooperation with donors, foundations, the private sector and government partners.

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the
following conditions must be met:




  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION);




  • Be computer literate in standard software applications;




  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and




  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    Work Experience
    No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship
    Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should
    benefit the United Nations during your internship.
    Languages
    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations
    Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and Arabic is
    required. Knowledge of French is an asset.
    Assessment

    Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and

United Nations Considerations
According to article ‎101, paragraph ‎3, of the Charter of the United Nations,
the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of
