Job Purpose
The Sustainability Program Lead is responsible for designing, implementing and
managing comprehensive projects and initiatives to advance the development and
implementation of KAUST's Sustainability Vision and Action Plan, in
partnership with all relevant departments at KAUST. The incumbent will also be
responsible for ensuring that KAUST's sustainability efforts enhance business
performance and support the long-term interests of the University in reducing
its carbon footprint.
Major Accountabilities
* Leads strategic projects and initiatives in close collaboration with the Head of Sustainability to advance the KAUST Sustainability agenda in partnership with all relevant departments at KAUST;
* Supports the development of KAUST's Sustainability Action Plan and a roadmap toward its implementation;
* Responsible for the annual GHG emission inventories and tracking progress toward a climate commitment;
* Supports the alignment of the KAUST Sustainability agenda with national frameworks;
* Develops climate action projects and initiatives and provides technical support to applicable departments in carbon management, incorporating sustainability practices in their agendas and operations;
* Elaborates submissions to international reporting schemes such as the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings and AASHE STARS;
* Builds solid cross-cutting partnerships between all KAUST Departments and promotes a culture of sustainability among the entire campus community;
* Benchmarks KAUST sustainability performance against other institutions;
* Supports the development of the KAUST Sustainability annual report;
* Supports the design and delivery of sustainability workshops and educational campaigns to the University's members;
* Supports the Head of Sustainability in any sustainability-related efforts, as requested.
Competencies
* Able to assess sustainability performance, operational progress, and lead reporting duties;
* Able to develop comprehensive reports for national and international organizations in the area of sustainability and to ensure KAUST's sustainability strategy is on par with other higher education institutions;
* Able to foster effective working relations with various stakeholders (including faculty, students, community members, and external bodies) to enhance and continuously improve KAUST sustainability efforts;
* Able to develop GHG emission inventories, and assess performance and progress toward a carbon reduction target;

* Able to advise on aligning existing department strategies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
* Knowledgeable in developing sustainability-associated communication materials, outreach activities, awareness campaigns, and training tools.
* Able to effectively exhibit time management and organizational skills while being able to meet deadlines;
* Ability to self-motivate, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment;
* Excellent command of oral and written English and Arabic;
* Excellent communication skills, including but not limited to technical writing, public speaking, and oral presentation.
Qualifications
* Master's Degree in environmental sciences, natural sciences, or engineering
* PhD is preferred
Experience
* Minimum ‎7 years of demonstrated experience working in the field of sustainability, environmental sciences, or renewable resources, preferably in higher education institutions;
* Demonstrated experience in leading sustainability projects and initiatives, carbon management projects, and applying decarbonization strategies to reduce organization's carbon footprints;
* Experience in creating, managing, or coordinating education programs involving multiple stakeholders, preferably in higher education institutions;
* Demonstrated experience in organizing science-related events for both academic and general public audiences;
* Strong organizational, analytical, and research skills;
* Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Access) and productivity tools;
* Execution-focused and a proven track record of success in complex environment;
* Experience in developing and implementing sustainability projects and initiatives across the entire organization;
* Experience leading and working within a multidisciplinary / multi-cultural team within an environmental or sustainability-related department preferred;
* Experience in national sustainability programs and data management would be advantageous;
* Solid experience working in and or across GCC would be desirable.
