Video Journalist, Saudi Arabia

The Associated Press seeks a videojournalist with a history of successful
television and online video storytelling in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Our video
team covers a wide range of news and collaborates with the industry’s best
journalists to produce stories that are seen around the world.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the news director for the Gulf and Iran, y
ou’ll shoot, write, edit and produce video, including live video, for the AP’s
broadcast, digital and mobile customers and platforms. As a member of a round-
the-clock operation that covers Saudi Arabia, you’ll also be expected to
pitch, develop and research stories. You will contribute reporting across
formats, including taking photos and reporting and writing text stories. You
may occasionally be asked to help edit live video, affiliate contributions and
video from other AP journalists.

We’re looking for someone who will:
have superior technical skills in video, including shooting and editing, in
both static environments and the chaos of breaking news.
develop sources throughout Saudi Arabia to consistently generate distinctive
video stories for global audiences.
demonstrate strong grammar and writing skills – and a knowledge of AP style –
for scripts, summaries, shotlists and news stories.
recognize strong news stories and visualize information in compelling ways in
video, all under deadline pressure , with the ability to consistently generate
distinctive video stories for national and global audiences.
collaborate with the diverse team of journalists at the AP who operate in all
formats to deliver spot news and enterprise coverage that breaks news, has
impact and is exclusive to AP.
pursue innovative and inclusive coverage strategies while maintaining AP’s
standards for integrity and objectivity.
be prepared to travel extensively to cover breaking news, often at short
notice, both inside and outside Saudi Arabia.
be able and willing to work any shift – including at night and on weekends –
as coverage demands, as AP is a ‎24/‎7 operation.

Qualifications: You should have advanced individual technical skills in
creating video content, as well as the ability to work within an all-formats
team to apply those skills from start to finish on breaking news and short-
and long-term projects. Applicants should be creative, innovative and agile
and work effectively in a deadline-driven newsroom. You should have at least
two years of full-time news experience as a videojournalist at a daily
newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau
or regional desk.

Other qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Applicants must be eligible to obtain permission to work as a journalist in
Saudi Arabia.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English.
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic.
Advanced-level professional competency in video shooting and non-linear
editing is required.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and planning skills, including the
ability to cooperate with and direct reporters and editors remotely.
