Summary

The Teaching & Learning Office is a dynamic team that supports learning across
the district via its mission of empowering educators to empower students,
with a focus on the ISG guiding principles and strategic goals. The office is
responsible for accreditations, the continuous curriculum review cycles,
professional development, learning support, instructional technology,
leadership development, school improvement, data, assessment, summer learning,
instructional resources, grading, assessment and program development.
The School Improvement Coordinator is responsible for overseeing school
improvement across the district in alignment with our strategic goals and
accreditation. The scope of the work includes building relationships to lead
system improvements, curriculum, instruction and assessment and communication
efforts.
Job Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to:



  • Demonstrate a commitment to the safety and security of children and young people (child protection)

  • System Improvement

    • Oversee school improvement processes, structures and implementation

    • Oversee accreditation including liaising with Middle States Association (MSA) and planning for continuous review, annual reports, mid-term reviews and reaccreditation

    • Lead and chair the System Planning Team as part of the MSA accreditation process

    • Develop and support school instructional leadership teams and school improvement plans

    • Stay current in professional readings, seminars, workshops, webinars and conferences to guide the development and review of programs and instructional practices

    • Support and guide leadership development for teachers and administrators

    • Conduct needs assessments and data analysis to identify areas for improvement, such as student achievement, instructional practices, school climate, or parent engagement

    • Collaborate with school leadership, teachers, staff and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and collective ownership of school improvement initiatives

    • Facilitate regular meetings, committees, or task forces to engage stakeholders in the planning and implementation of improvement initiatives



  • Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

    • Ensure that the curriculum is inclusive, culturally responsive and is supportive of the diverse needs of students

    • Support teachers in implementing the curriculum by providing guidance, resources and professional development

    • Develop, coordinate and monitor academic programs and oversee curriculum updates

    • Provide guidance on instructional practices based on system goals, data and student needs

    • Utilize assessment data to make decisions about student learning and programs

    • Facilitate professional development workshops

    • Maintain and further develop the ISG curriculum warehouse



  • Communication

    • Maintain regular communications with school instructional leadership teams, school leadership and accreditation teams

    • Create reports focused on system goals and student achievement and meet with relevant stakeholders including school and district leaders

    • Communicate regularly with stakeholders to provide updates on progress, successes and address concerns

    • Promote and maintain a positive working environment

      Qualifications and Knowledge
      The ideal candidate will have:



  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field of study

  • Additional certifications or a master's degree in a related field is an asset

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of educational standards, curriculum frameworks and assessment practices

  • Knowledge of ISG adopted standards, guiding principles and strategic goals

  • Knowledge of American, British and international education standards and systems
    Experience and Skills
    The ideal candidate will have:
    Experience

  • At least five years teaching experience in K-‎12 education is essential, preferably in multiple grade levels or subjects

  • In curriculum development, program implementation, instructional design or educational leadership

  • In analyzing student achievement data, assessment results and other educational data to inform curriculum decisions

  • In designing and delivering professional development for teachers, focusing on curriculum implementation, instructional strategies and assessment practices

  • Familiarity with current trends and research in curriculum development and instructional strategies

  • Expertise in designing and developing curriculum materials, unit plans and instructional resources

  • Developing strong relationships with parents, students and the community to ensure their understanding of the curriculum initiatives
    Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills that effectively communicate goals, strategies and progress to various stakeholders

  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, presentations and data summaries

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators and stakeholders

  • Ability to lead and navigate conflicts or differing opinions within a group, promoting healthy debate and finding common ground

  • Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data to evaluate school performance and inform improvement strategies

  • Ability to use data analysis tools and assessment frameworks to monitor progress and measure outcomes

  • In-depth understanding of research-based school improvement strategies, best practices and evidence-based interventions such as, plan-do-study-act

  • Ability to align curriculum with standards, differentiate instruction and incorporate diverse perspectives and cultural relevance
