Role Summary
The Ethics and Compliance Manager is part of the EMEA Compliance team, itself
part of a wider Global Legal & Compliance unit. The EMEA team works as a
tight unit, collaborating on projects and processes, supporting a wider EMEA
(or Global) agenda, and adapting flexibly to changing compliance priorities.
The Ethics and Compliance Manager supports the EMEA Head of Ethics &
Compliance across the entire EMEA business (e.g. Agency, Investment,
Facilities Management, Project & Development Services, Design & Build) and all
support functions (e.g. Finance, HR, IT Services, Procurement). It is a varied
job, with a mixture of managing process and projects, and working with local
and international colleagues.
This role is the person supporting Middle East & Africa countries in EMEA as
directed by Head of Ethics & Compliance. With regards to ‘operations’, the
focus is on addressing MEA countries’ queries, but support will be sought on
wider EMEA queries. Likewise with projects, in addition to leading certain
projects for the whole of EMEA, the focus will be on addressing MEA countries’
requirements and implementation for EMEA projects and support other EMEA
colleagues on their EMEA projects.
What this job involves
You will be responsible for delivering parts of the EMEA Compliance Programme
as agreed with the EMEA Head of Compliance, with a particular focus on Anti-
Financial Crime, Privacy & Information Laws, Regulation and Professional
Ethics, and Business Ethics. This includes:
Anti-Money Laundering – Ensuring Know Your Client / Counterparty procedures
are following in all AML-scope Business Units. Increasing awareness in
reporting of suspicious activity within the client-facing business.
Data Protection – Assisting on ensuring privacy documentation is kept up to
date, managing data breaches and privacy rights within the business,
monitoring compliance with the JLL Marketing Policy. Increasing awareness of
privacy practices (property and corporate marketing).
Technology – Working with our IT team (TDIM), Information Security, and
business teams to consider Legal & Compliance risks (e.g. confidentiality,
regulatory and professional ethics, key contacts) when delivering new
technology solutions.
Compliance Contracting – Assisting Commercial Counsel on drafting and
negotiating clauses with respect to Anti-Financial Crime, Data Protection,
Financial Services and Regulation (including RICS), and Ethics.
Training & Communications – Contributing to and delivering training on
relevant compliance matters to Residential teams. Preparing guidance documents
and team communications. Helping in chasing completion of training.
Conflicts of Interests – Advising on potential conflicts of interests
(personal and corporate) as they arise in the business, assisting with
obtaining informed consent and implementation of information barriers.
Industry / Sector Ambassador – Attending meetings with other Compliance
Directors / Professionals within the real estate industry, representing JLL in
sector groups or forums in the MEA. Keeping abreast of regulatory developments
and initiatives.
Compliance Processes – Administering compliance processes across the business,
such as Gifts and Entertainment, Supplier Due Diligence, whistleblowing, and
investigations, and responding to client tenders / questionnaires / audits.
MEA horizon – Monitoring developments and the application of MEA laws across
the Compliance landscape. Identifying and developing compliance policies and
processes in response.
Desired skills and experience for this job
A Compliance professional in a large corporate organisation. A formal Legal /
Compliance qualification is necessary.
Experience within financial or professional services is important. Additional
experience in the real estate sector and in particular the Commercial market
is desirable, but not mandatory.
5 – 8 years of Compliance experience
Willingness to learn as training will be provided, to attend external training
courses / seminars / webinars, and to share learnings with colleagues.
Good knowledge of SharePoint, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Outlook,
and/or Teams
Demonstrate confidence in your ability, and anticipate what is needed
Develop good working relationships within the Legal & Compliance and JLL teams
Excellent spoken and written communication skills, capable of dealing with
colleagues of all seniority
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Team player who deals effectively with colleagues and clients
Ability to prioritise workload with an attention to detail and willingness to
complete projects in a timely and efficient manner
Proven organisation skills
