About the role
As our new Project Officer for the Midlands and East Region, you will work
with other Project Officers to support behaviour change and engagement
projects with schools, workplaces and communities. You will engage local
people as part of projects led by our National Cycle Network Development and
Design and Engineering Teams.
This role plays a key part in affecting real change across the region,
creating healthier and happier communities for everyone.
You will proactively support the development of active travel and liveable
space for communities across the region. Our priority areas of work are
expected to be in or close to:
* Birmingham
* Coventry
* Nottingham
* Leicester
* Cambridgeshire
* Norwich
You will help to grow engagement and influence partners around the delivery of
infrastructure schemes, such as School Streets and improvements to the
National Cycle Network.
We are recruiting five project officers. These positions will require travel
with some overnight stays. Candidates should be based within commutable
distance of one of the cities listed above by train, with regular travel
expected to your nearby office hub.

About you
You should be a well-organised and reliable worker who can plan, promote and
deliver safe, inclusive and engaging activities. You should be a clear
communicator who loves talking to and listening to people, with the ability to
alter your communication style to effectively engage with a wide range of
people.
We work collaboratively, so building effective working relationships with
community organisations, workplaces and those promoting walking and cycling is
key to being successful in the role. This will allow you to engage effectively
with the diverse communities across the region.
You will have experience in delivering physical activity or other behaviour
change projects and activities with communities, workplaces, or schools. You
will be skilled at delivering face-to-face training, engagement or
consultation activities, events or workshops and have experience in
partnership working with other organisations.
We understand that not everyone will have experience in all of the above, so
training and opportunities to gain skills and experience will be offered as
part of the role.
You should have an understanding of the benefits of active and sustainable
travel and have a passion for helping people to walk or cycle, improving the
environment or improving accessibility for people with disabilities. Knowledge
of one of the cities highlighted above will also be helpful.
