Job details

Under the overall supervision of the UNODC Regional Representative for the
Middle East and North Africa. The internship is located in the United Nations
Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Division for Operations (DO), Regional
Section for Africa and the Middle East (RSAME), Regional Office for the Middle
East and North Africa (ROMENA) in Cairo, Egypt. This profile is for the sole
purpose of the Internship Programme of UNODC Offices in the MENA Region. There
should be no expectation of employment within the UN after an internship.
Interns shall not be eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, positions at
the professional level and above carrying international recruitment status in
the Secretariat for a period of six months following the end of their
internship.


The internship is unpaid and full time. Interns work for ‎5 days per week (‎40
Hours). The envisaged starting date for the internship is in July ‎2023.


The programme is normally full-time, i.e. an intern is expected to work five
days per week (‎9:00 a.m. - ‎5:00 p.m.) in the department or office of the
Secretariat to which he/she is assigned, carrying out his/her tasks under the
supervision of a staff member - the supervisor.

Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the
department to which he/she is assigned and the period during which he/she will
undertake the internship. Here are some examples:



  • Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents

  • Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings

  • Document, legal and internet research

  • Assistance during conferences

  • Assist with web-presentations

  • Support the evaluation of projects

  • Support the compilation of statistics

  • Assist with media analysis

  • Contribute to speech-writing

  • Perform other tasks as necessary

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the
following conditions must be met:




  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); Degree in the field of law, social sciences, political science, economic studies and political science, international relations, public health, business administration or closely related field is required. Academic training and/or a keen demonstrated interest in international security is an assent.




  • Be computer literate in standard software applications;




  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and




  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    Work Experience
    No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship
    Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should
    benefit the United Nations during your internship.
    Languages
    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations
    Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in both English and
    Arabic is required. Knowledge of French is an asset. Working knowledge of
    another official United Nations language is an advantage.

United Nations Considerations
According to article ‎101, paragraph ‎3, of the Charter of the United Nations,
