Researcher, Current Affairs
The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN) is seeking a Researcher for
our Current Affairs Department at our Cairo Bureau. MBN is a non-profit
grantee of the federal government that directly communicates with the people
of the Middle East and North Africa through television, radio, and digital
media. MBN's mission is to provide objective, accurate, and relevant news and
information to the people of the Middle East about the region, the world, and
the United States in support of U.S. public diplomacy.
The Researcher is responsible for providing timely and accurate information to
Current Affairs; maintain a daily calendar of events; identifying and
supplying newsworthy items, fact checking, researching stories and providing
guest ideas to support Current Affairs programs.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Researcher include, but are
not limited to the following:
* Supporting the producer by contributing ideas, contacts and sources.
* Selecting and interviewing possible contributors and writes relevant briefings.
* Maintain up-to-date contact list and is able to access relevant information from various sources including internet , libraries and archives.
* Sourcing and suggesting suitable contributors, demonstrating how their input fits into each production.
* Demonstrating advanced analytical skills.
* Thinking visually and conceptualizing ideas.
* Researching facts and background information.
* Working with the producer in writing profile briefs on each guest.
* Researching and writing briefs on Islamic history/tradition for selected topics.
* Researching, viewing and editing video materials of lectures, meetings and religious seminars to extract the appropriate editorial bites.
Candidates are required to have :
* Bachelor's degree in journalism/broadcast journalism or related education and experience in the television production field.
* Strong understanding of online research tools including search engines and social networks.
* A well-informed understanding of Middle East current events and familiarity with international developments.
* Excellent Arabic and English written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Demonstrated organizational skills and be detail oriented.
* Ability to accommodate flexible work schedule to support 24/7 broadcast environment.
