  • To engage in continued professional development in order to keep up-to-date with developments in the field and to facilitate consistent provision of high quality teaching


Job Overview


This is an exciting opportunity to join our academic team in Saudi Arabia at a
time of ambitious growth for the British Council across adult, young learner
and corporate English programmes in the Gulf region and specifically Saudi
Arabia. The country itself continues to undergo change making the location
appealing to international teachers and providing a good standard of living.


This teaching position will be based in Jeddah, most likely as part of a team
operating from a new location with modern, well-equipped classrooms. Teachers
are expected to work across all products and age groups. There are
opportunities to broaden your skills by working on our growing off-site
corporate programmes.


At times, teachers may be asked to work independently in remote locations, for
short periods of time. We would welcome applications from teachers or trainers
with experience working intensively with closed groups of adult students in
the workplace, but who are also able to adapt to ensure delivery to British
Council teaching standards in both offsite and teaching centre work.
The British Council supports teacher development through its performance
enablement programme, internal and external training courses, support for
action research projects and presenting at internal and external conferences.
There are regular opportunities for more experienced teachers to take the next
steps in their career by getting involved in mentoring, tutoring or training
session delivery under the guidance of our experienced academic management and
teaching excellence teams


Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:



  • Planning, preparing and delivering high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning styles.

  • Monitoring progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students' performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy.

  • Contributing to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services.

  • Ensuring teaching meets the standards expected in Teaching and Learning Reviews, the annual Academic Quality Plans and organisational expectations.

  • Using technology during lessons when required.

  • Finishing administrative tasks in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Contributing to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students' understanding of the contemporary UK.

  • Assisting in covering classes for colleagues.

  • Actively engaging in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning and maintain British Council's position at the forefront of best ELT practices.

  • Supporting local marketing and promotional strategy and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service.

  • Ensuring safeguarding and other guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:

    • Child protection

    • Equality, diversity and inclusion

    • Health and safety




Qualification


Essentials



  • Cambridge CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL.

  • Bachelor's degree / first degree required


Desirables



  • Cambridge DELTA/Trinity Diploma or equivalent

  • PGCE/B.Ed in Primary or relevant subject

  • TYLEC or CELTYL


Work Experience


Essentials



  • A minimum of ‎2 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels from young learners through to adults.

  • You should have experience in teaching

    • Adults aged ‎18+ (‎1800+ hours) and one or more of the following age groups:

    • Young learners aged ‎6 to ‎12 (‎600+ hours)

    • Young learners aged ‎13 to ‎17 (‎600+hours)




Desirables



  • Experience teaching with British Council global products for adults and young learners

  • Experience teaching Business Communication Skills, ESP, IELTS preparation courses or A0/A1 level students

  • Recent experience working in a teaching context similar to the British Council

  • Experience collaborating and working with teams both virtually and in-person


Language requirements -



  • Full proficiency in English across all ‎4 skills, equivalent to CEFR C2/IELTS Band ‎8/‎9 in each of ‎4 sections of the academic module.


Salary & Benefits:



  • Salary: ‎11,788 SAR to ‎14,555 SAR/ month (Depending on qualification & experience)

  • Housing Allowance: ‎1400 SAR/month

  • Transport Allowance: ‎700 SAR/Month

  • Annual Leave: ‎30 days / Annual

  • Medical Insurance: Provide for self and accompanied dependants

  • Annual Airfare Allowance: For Self Only

  • Relocation Allowance: Will be provided for candidates based outside the country


Additional Information:



  • Contract Type: ‎12 months (Renewable)

  • Location: Jeddah

  • Work Schedule: The teaching centres in Jeddah are currently open ‎6 days a week and operate across the day including evenings until ‎10.45. Teachers typically work a ‎5-day week with a ‎2-day weekend with teaching patterns adjusted to meet operational needs. Work schedules are subject to change as the British Council continues to grow. Off-site corporate teaching may involve domestic travel.

  • Right to Work/Passport Requirement: Candidates are expected to have researched whether they have the right to live and work in the country in which the role is based. Given that our offices have different legal status depending on the work we do in those countries, we recommend that you contact HR in country for additional information on the likelihood of securing a visa. Only at its discretion will the British Council provide support so please check first whether visa support is offered.

  • At present, due to Saudi Arabian legal restrictions, we are unable to employ applicants over the age of ‎59 years.

  • Candidates should ensure their degree and teaching certificates are available in order to proceed with the attestation steps required for the final stages of the visa process.
