Job Description
Job purpose statement
* HSE officers, also known as health, safety, and environment safety officers, Officer is responsible for maintaining and implementing Company Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System. The HSE Officer will be fully responsible for implementing safe systems of work and safe behavioral practices at the site. This position provides HSE guidance to the organization and supports the operation process in order to maintain and continually improve the safety culture and performance, in line with the Vanderlande's needs to comply with business objectives in the short, medium and long terms and in accordance with the terms of our various contracts and the Integrated Management System.
Scope
* Monitor health and safety management system, assess risk, and support the HSE Manager to design strategies to reduce potential hazards within an assigned workplace or geographic area
Qualification and abilities
* Proven experience as safety officer
* In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA/EPA/SBC/GOSI/HRSD) and procedures
* Knowledgeable in ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and HSE management systems is highly preferred
* Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
* Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety
* Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
* Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics
* BSc/BA in safety management, engineering or relevant field is preferred
* Certificate in occupational health and safety.
* Strong passion in HSE.
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment.
* Excellent interpersonal and conflict handling skills.
* The ability to demonstrate the application of risk assessment to company operations and activities.

Responsibilities
* Conduct risk assessment and recommend and follow-up preventative measures
* Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment)
* Support the HSE Manager and team with planning, coordinating, and implementing of effective HSE policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure that the department objectives are met.
* Provide support to Operation and Maintenance teams in all aspects of occupational health, safety and environmental issues.
* Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards to ensure compliance.
* Providing advice and direction to employees and management on how to minimize or ultimately avoid risks and hazards in the workplace
* Support the HSE Manager in ensuring HSE compliance on the site and perform regular HSE audits in the areas of business and operations.
* Ensuring safety inspections and audits are completed at the prescribed intervals and that corrective actions are taken to correct identified deficiencies
* Provide support to the dept on the implementation of Company-wide HSE initiatives e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001, etc.
* Assist with developing HSE plans that comply with Company policies and procedures.
* Ensure training, toolbox meetings, and drills are implemented as part of the company's HSE program.
* Leading or participating in the investigation of workplace accidents and non-compliance reports and prepare/submit lessons learned to the HSE Manager.
* Assist in the development of company specific HSE procedures.
* Provide support to the HSE Manager by maintaining a visible presence on the field performing
* Conduct HSE trainings and orientation to all new employees.
* Ensure that reporting is performed promptly and accurately.
* Organize soft & hard files with focus on digitalization.
* Produce and update reports within specified time as required.
List of key activities
* Oversee from HSE perspective the installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
* Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
* Record and investigate incidents to determine the root causes, propose CAPA and follow up and track it.
* Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to HSE Manager
* Conduct HSE trainings and orientation to all new employees.
