OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME


In the context of WHO priority for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), the AMR
unit within the Department of Communicable Diseases (UHC-DCD) at the WHO EMR
officehas the objective of assisting Member States of WHO EMR to develop and
implementnational AMR action plans in alignment with the global AMR action
plan, the 13thGlobal Programme of Work of WHO and the Sustainable Development
Goals, and to strengthen capacity for infection prevention andcontrol (IPC) in
healthcare and the community.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES


‎1. Provide required AMR expertise for the development of regional and
national AMR strategies and action plans and guide the implementation,
monitoring and evaluation activities for containment of AMR.
‎2. Develop guidelines, protocols, tools and SOPs to support countries
establish national and facility level AMR surveillance programmes to collect,
analyze and report good quality AMR surveillance data, to conduct point
prevalence surveys, and report antimicrobial consumption data.
‎3. Coordinate with IPC technical officer to establish/enhance national and
facility level infection prevention and control programmes to prevent the
spread of AMR.
‎4. Provide technical guidance to countries and stakeholders to interpret and
utilize AMR surveillance data to develop priority interventions for
implementation of the antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programmes.
‎5. Provide technical expertise for the development of regional and country-
specific policies related to planning, implementation, monitoring and
evaluation of stewardship programmes, including governance, AWARE
classification, therapeutic guidelines for main infectious syndromes,
diagnostic stewardship, surgical prophylaxis interventions, and others.
‎6. Strengthen partnership and integration of AMR with various programmes
within WHO, including health system strengthening, health promotion,
emergencies, workforce development at all levels (country, regional, and
headquarters offices).
‎7. Establish a regional platform for the "One Health AMR" strategy to foster
the tripartite collaboration, partnership and engagement with FAO, OIE, UNEP
and other UN and international organizations.
‎8. Develop, implement and monitor WHO regional AMR plans, including
monitoring and evaluation framework with key performance indicators at
regional and country levels.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


Education


Essential : Master's degree in a medical field (medicine, public health,
nursing, infectious diseases, tropicalmedicine, microbiology, epidemiology, or
other medical area).
Desirable : Medical qualification (e.g.,MBBs or MD)Infectious diseases
fellowship.


Experience


Essential : At least seven years of relevant experience with proven
international exposure in developing, implementing andmonitoring AMR
surveillance, antimicrobial stewardship programmes.
Desirable : Relevant international experience in low or middle-income
countries. Experience in the area of advocacy and working with international
partners is an asset.


Skills


Demonstrated knowledge in antimicrobial resistance and its driving factors and
critical paths in containment of antimicrobial resistance. Substantial
knowledge in AMR surveillance, antimicrobial stewardship programmes, public
health planning and implementation skills.

REMUNERATION


WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US
dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base
salary starting at USD ‎75,602 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension
contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post
adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station,
and currently amounts to USD ‎2268 per month for the duty station indicated
above. Other benefits include ‎30 days of annual leave, allowances for
dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent
children.
