OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME


The UHC communicable diseases department leads the work of the WHO Regional
Office for the Eastern Mediterranean Region to prevent, control, eliminate and
eradicate communicable diseases under the broader mandate of the organization
to achieve universal health coverage, protect people from health emergencies
and achieve healthier lifestyle. The IVP unit provides technical leadership
and coordination in vaccine preventable diseases and immunization to achieve
the programme objectives in partnership with United Nations Agencies, the
Global Polio Eradication Initiative, donor institutions and Ministries of
Health in Member States.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES



  • Oversee and ensure the generation, consolidation of updated information and evidence on local epidemiology and burden of diseases targeted by new vaccines in affected countries and in the region.

  • Analyze data and information on Expanded Programme on Immunization and provide feedback to stakeholders on the impact of newly introduced vaccines in the national immunization schedule of the country(ies).

  • Formulate strategies to strengthen and extend existing health-care networks.

  • Guide Member States to include new vaccines and technologies in their national health/immunization strategic plans in line with WHO recommendations on new vaccines and technologies.

  • Provide technical expertise to assess the decision-making capacity of National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (R/NITAG) and develop appropriate training material to meet identified gaps.

  • Design a plan to strengthen Regional and National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (R/NITAG) on developing proposals and evidence-based decision-making.

  • Develop and disseminate guidelines for evaluation of the impact of newly introduced vaccines in the national immunization schedule of Member States.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


Education


Essential : Masters degree in medicine or health sciences or public health
or relevant field.
Desirable : University degree in medicine, pharmacy, or veterinary
sciences. Training in formulation of evidence-based recommendations (e.g.,
GRADE process).


Experience


Essential : At least seven years of experience, with proven international
exposure, in strengthening routine immunization programme or public health.
Excellent field experience developing EPI strategic and operational plan,
manage vaccine preventable disease surveillance.
Desirable :
Experience in communicable diseases or immunization policy development.
Experience of working in low and middle-income countries.
Experience in formulation of evidence based recommendations (e.g., GRADE
process).
Training in vaccinology, communicable disease epidemiology.


Skills



  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, methodology and techniques of immunization programmes.

  • Excellent knowledge in analysis of vaccine preventable diseases and immunization data, synthesizing information and presenting clear and concise conclusions and decision making.

  • Good understanding of epidemiology of vaccine preventable communicable diseases.

REMUNERATION


WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US
dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base
salary starting at USD ‎77,326 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension
contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post
adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station,
and currently amounts to USD ‎1791 per month for the duty station indicated
above. Other benefits include ‎30 days of annual leave, allowances for
dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent
children.
