Has responsibility for operations of an assigned area (i.e. dock area)
within the facility. Has accountability for the business operations,
establishment of production standards and operations/services provided
within the assigned area.
Assists Management Team in the managing, evaluation and mentoring of
supervisors and associates. Ensures accurate and timely tracking of internal
and external reports including, but not limited to, safety, production,
resource allocation, cost and load/unload. Accuracy is part of the required
key performance indicators. Has constant dialogs with the Supervisors and
Managers on daily operational issues and events, and in their absence reports
the same information to the Operations Manager. Assists Management Team with
monitoring the level of service versus volume versus cost and efficiency
versus capacity of the movement and storage of goods. Ensures planning and
incorporation of incorporates yard, door and labour requirements for both
inbound containers and outbound trailers. Uses detailed metrics/production
assessments (by container content/customer requirements) to determine and
communicate specific shift by shift production /labour plan for the
operations. Analyses data to monitor performance, overall improvements to
plan, customer demand and develop the business. Allocates and manages staff
resources according to changing needs (by shift, daily, weekly, monthly, long-
term forecasting), and works in conjunction with Operations Manager. Optimises
efficiency of the operation and reduces costs. Develops forward knowledge of
systems and changing government and municipal regulations to help build the
infrastructure to support growth. Works closely with senior management to
identify opportunities within the existing and future customer base.
