The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for Economic Liaison Officer on a
fixed term contract for two (2) years, with possibility of renewal.
The Embassy in Riyadh is a large team, delivering key priorities against a
wide range of UK government objectives. The environment is challenging and the
issues can be complex and fast moving.
This is an exciting time of change in Saudi Arabia with Vision 2030 economic
reforms providing unprecedented opportunities for the UK economy. Saudi Arabia
is a high priority bilateral relationship for the UK on a range of areas,
including security and prosperity. In particular, the Economic and Prosperity
team focuses on economic analysis, financial services, climate change, energy,
healthcare, education, culture, sport and tourism.
The jobholder will support His Majesty's Government's (HMG) engagement with
Saudi Arabia in country as part of the British Embassy's Economic and
Prosperity Team. They will have a visible role across the Embassy and with a
wide range of Whitehall partners. They will engage with an array of
stakeholders, support operational logistics, understand relevant policy,
manage visit programmes for senior UK officials, and liaise with Saudi
Ministries.
The jobholder will be comfortable with project management, as well as able to
add value and bring a strategic approach. They will gain political and
delivery experience as well as develop economic and wider prosperity skills,
influencing and public diplomacy capabilities.
Duties and responsibilities:
* Political
* Develop contacts and liaise with a broad range of Saudi entities, including Ministries and other Government Organisations for the Economic and Prosperity Team. In particular, leading on protocol and operational matters.
* Support the policy objectives of the Economic and Prosperity Team, including horizon scanning, producing background documentation, and updating on Saudi policy announcements, all of which should reflect the team and the jobholder's interests.
* Acting as a coordination point between UK entities, including the British Council, the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), and other teams at the Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate General in Jeddah. Assist in ensuring UK activity on relevant work is joined up in country.
* Arrange visit programmes for inward VIP visits, including UK Ministers, Special Representatives, and senior officials. Coordinate logistics across the Embassy; liaise with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other stakeholders in order to secure visas and meetings.
* Provide support to relevant Saudi officials as they prepare to visit the UK.
* Programme delivery
* Lead in drafting of notes verbales and liaise with Saudi Arabia 's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to secure engagements.
* Attend meetings with key stakeholders and draft meeting records. When required, develop these notes into briefing documents and reports for senior staff.
* Support in organising logistical elements for the Economic and Prosperity Team.
* Provide a secretariat function for the team, capturing and sharing key information to ensure cohesive working and that documentation is organised and filed correctly.
* Line management
* Potential opportunity to line manage an Administrative Officer and supervise their work. Their work includes, but are not limited to, providing administrative support to the Economic Team; help support operational logistics; lead administrative tasks; contribute to visit programmes for senior UK officials; and assist in liaising with Saudi Arabia's Ministries.
The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be
flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required. This includes having a
corporate objective and supporting wider Embassy responsibilities, including
participating in the Embassy's emergency planning and any other response to a
crisis affecting UK citizens.

Eligibility:
* The successful candidate must be able to secure a local residence and work permit in Saudi (iqama) OR already have the right to work and reside in Saudi.
* The British Embassy provides visa sponsorship. The successful candidate will be required to transfer their visa under the Embassy's sponsorship.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience 1
* Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic, both verbal and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both orally and in written communication. Accurate typing and proofreading skills.
* Collaborative approach to colleague and stakeholder partnerships. Ability to maintain a range of contacts to build effective working relationships in public and private sectors. Recognises the importance of developing a strong network.
* Ability to prioritise own workload and meet deadlines without compromising the quality of the work.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience 1
* Holds at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant subject area (e.g., economics, international relations or politics).
* Previous relevant experience of working in an embassy/ foreign diplomatic mission or government agency.
* Understanding of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 landscape.
* Experience in logistics, official visits, or events management.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration
package for this role.
Monthly salary details:
* Base Salary - SAR 9,256
* Housing Allowance - SAR 2,314 (subject to eligibility)
* Travel Allowance - SAR 500 (subject to eligibility)
* Total - SAR 12,070
* Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form. Spouses/ Dependents of UKBS officers working at the Embassy are not eligible to Housing or Travel Allowance.
No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this
position.
This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week. Normal working hours
for the Embassy are from 08:00 to 15:00 from Sunday to Thursday, with core
working hours from 10:00-15:00. Core working hours is the period of the day
that employees are required to be at work. The working day outside of the core
hours is a flexible period, which allows employees to choose when they work,
subject to operational needs.
The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours
worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working
out of hours (evening/ weekend) during visits and events. Flexible working
arrangements may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement
with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.
The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.
The successful candidate will be required to transfer their iqama under the
Embassy's sponsorship.
