Danfoss Drives is looking for talented students for in-company projects to
support the introduction of the next generation of Frequency Converters. You
are going to work closely with the R &D functions within Danfoss Drives and
will be based in Graasten.
Project Description:
The current ripple created by the pulse-width modulation contains information
that can be relevant for protection and motor state estimation.
The goal of this project is to use the FPGA capabilities of high sample rate
to provide the ripple information (current change rate) to the control card
where the information will be processed.
Care must be taken to account for issues such as delays and cable ringing so
that the information is reliable.
All proposed methods must be verified with the real motor tests.

Project Description:
Have you ever wanted to move sub functions of an analog circuit into an FPGA
to save space or cost?
If so, you already know that you will need to model either the FPGA into the
analog domain or make a VHDL/Verilog model of your analog circuit to simulate
your implementation.
The creation of these models is error prone and is a waste of time!
* Investigate how already existing tools like ModelSim and PSpice can be used for Mixed signal simulation.
* Develop a method / tool for using existing code / models for Mixed signal simulation

Project Description:
* Improve existing python-based FPGA testbench generation script
* Collect and present Coverage reports in a meaning full way
* Create new/improved Verification Components using the UVVM methodology
* Come up with your own ideas or brainstorm with the FPGA team
what could be improved

Project Description:
Background
Switching of inverters requires a steady unipolar or bipolar voltage supply.
Voltage supplies with galvanic isolation requires dedicated space for the
transformers that put constraints on the design due to a typical switching
frequency in the range of a few hundred kHz. The transformers are often THT
which is more costly to mount than SMD. To avoid a sizable voltage supply with
costly components it is desirable to increase the switching frequency into or
close to the Very High Frequency range (VHF, 30-300 MHz) and use Printed
Circuit Board (PCB) embedded magnetics for galvanic reinforced isolation with
ref. requirements stated in IEC 61800-5-1:2007 and IEC 61558-1:2019.
Objective
The objective of the project is to investigate whether it is possible to
increase the switching frequency of the inverter gate drive supplies into the
VHF range. The isolated DC/DC converter should achieve efficiencies at least
on par with current art in Danfoss gate drive supplies and use standard
components to keep cost low. The aim is to show that a significant reduction
of the overall size can be achieved without compromising cost, efficiency or
compliance with applicable drive standards as example electromagnetic
interference.
