* Purpose of consultancy
The main objective of this consultancy is to update the Regional health
profile for the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region. The work will involve
coordinating inputs to the report from a large number of technical units
within EMRO, reviewing and consolidating input into a coherent narrative,
providing feedback and following up with technical units where needed.

  Background
  In ‎2020, WHO EMRO published the Eastern Mediterranean Region health profile,
  aimed at reporting on the progress in improving health and well-being in the
  Region. WHO EMRO plans to update the profile using data and evidence available
  up to ‎31 August ‎2022. The profile is intended to provide an overview of the
  regional health situation within the overall framework of the Vision ‎2030, the
  health and health-related SDG agenda, and the 13th WHO General Programme of
  Work (GPW13). Data for the profile will be sourced from the Regional Health
  Observatory, the Global Health Observatory and databases of other
  international organizations as well as reports and peer-reviewed publications
  from the Member States. The available data will offer opportunities to assess
  the health situation at both regional and country levels, and assess progress
  made since ‎2019 on key health indicators. Where applicable, the report will
  present the regional averages for relevant indicators against the global as
  well as the WHO other Regions' averages.

  
  


• 
  

  Work to be performed
  The following responsibilities, outputs and deliverables are expected:

  
  


• Collate contributions on priority thematic areas from technical departments and country offices for inclusion in the regional health profile. This will involve liaising with technical departments and making sure they provide their contributions in due time.


• Review contributions from departments and country offices, edit as necessary and integrate into a cohesive report. Manage references using Zotero or similar reference style.


• Ensure no key priority area is missing from the report.


• Review existing reports, country profiles and peer-reviewed publications on the health situation in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and include relevant information in the report.


• Draft the final report in close collaboration with SID/ISH team, technical departments and country office teams.


• Finalize the updated regional health profile based on input and comments from technical departments and country office teams.

  Prepare and submit weekly and monthly progress reports to SID/ISH team during the assignment.

  
  


• 
  

  Qualifications, experience, skills and languages
  Educational Qualifications: Minimum first university degree for lower end
  of range, an advanced university degree for mid and high end of range in
  epidemiology, public health, global, health information systems or related
  field.

  
  

Experience
* ‎5 to ‎10 years of experience in public health, global health and/or health information systems or related field.
* Proven experience in coordinating inputs from a large number of different contributors, writing, reviewing, providing feedback, editing (the final draft of the report will be reviewed by a professional editor.

Skills/Technical skills and knowledge:
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills proven by previous publications.
* Excellent skills in preparing reports or other related scientific products.
* Ability to produce deliverables within required timeframe.
* Ability to work independently and to produce results under strict timelines.
* Proven experience in maintaining effective communication with counterparts.
* the consultant is expected to do some editing particularly relating to integrating different contributions into a coherent narrative, reduce redundancies, improve language so that a solid draft can be provided for final editing by the professional editor) and finalizing a large report.

Languages and level required:
English - Expert level (C2) in speaking, reading, and writing
