Job Purpose

• Developing new products and technologies based on regional marketing requirements in co-ordination with Central laboratory


• Effectively report results, propose conclusions and recommendations within agreed timescales using appropriate methods


• Developing fundamental understanding of key coating attributes


• Testing/support of existing products, processes and coating systems


• Support the regional manufacturing sites Marine & Protective Coatings R&D

Key Accountabilities

• Testing/support of existing technologies, products and processes


• Developing fundamental understanding of key coating and technology attributes


• Effective development and management of long-term plans for assigned projects and support activities. Contributes to project risk analysis


• Understands how product attributes relate to external customer needs through market insights


• Design, develop, carry-out, evaluate & interpret experiments under own direction based on advanced knowledge and previous experience


• Identify and contributes to idea generation by building on others ideas e.g. to support test method development &/or developing new products and technologies


• Effectively analyses data and patterns to generate conclusions and recommendations within agreed timescales using appropriate methods


• Plan, conduct and evaluate trials (e,g. application, production processes, equipment) as required


• Support factory in terms of introducing new products and follow scale up processes to enable smooth transfer of technologies and products


• Support other regional factories RD&I teams in the MEA region for introducing new products


• To ensure the new products and processes introduced on site are complied to local factory guidelines


• Applies understanding of IP, legislative demands, standard products &/or technologies, including application and testing recommendations in pertinent fields


• Identifies improvement needs and suggests improvement activities/projects to resolve major issues. concerns e.g. collecting and analysing data. Drives roll-out of improvement solutions (where required)


• Provision of effective support to internal and external customers (e.g. training colleagues, leading claims/complaints investigations and managing trials)


• Effective communication and liaison with key influencers e.g. within the team, MPY RD&I, Technology Team, PRSA, Intellectual Property, other functions and external suppliers


• Maintains a safe working environment e.g. member of 5S team, supports H&S engagement audits, supporting BBS processes

Experience

• BSc / MSc Degree in Chemistry.


• At least ‎3 year of relevant experience in Paints & Coatings industry.


• Experience in Marine & Protective Coatings with hands on experience in the laboratory; new product evaluations, and raw materials testing as per industry standards.


• NACE or similar certification is an advantage.
