Principal responsibilities



  • Performance of daily trade and communications surveillance across business lines in the MSS, GB and CMB business.

  • Expertise needed to detect regulatory compliance risk from investigative and surveillance work.

  • To test the adequacy of controls in place within surveillance space.

  • To escalate regulatory and internal breaches in order that appropriate action can be undertaken to rectify.

  • Performing ad-hoc trading reviews. Scope of report to include trends and analysis / out of the norm trading activity.

  • Foster a close relationship with the Regulatory Compliance and Financial Crime Teams

  • Foster a good relationship with exchanges and regulators.

  • Assist in the development of automated surveillance systems, to improve the efficiency and reduction of false positives.

  • Assisting team members with the implementation and roll-out of a new surveillance / market abuse monitoring tool.

  • User Acceptance Testing (UAT) of new automated surveillance tests. Providing detailed analysis and test scripts.

  • Knowledge of the Market Abuse Regulation is essential.

  • An interest in financial markets and in particular, financial market regulation is essential.

  • Knowledge of various asset classes is essential.

  • Timely production of high quality Management Information (MI).

  • Ad-hoc Regulatory Compliance work i.e. Bloomberg message retrievals, listening to dealer board telephone calls.,

  • Assisting Global and Regional Surveillance with any model development, governance/framework planning, and global enhancement projects.

    What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience of working effectively within a small team.

  • Knowledge of financial markets products (FX, Fixed Income, Equities and debt Capital Markets)

  • Ability to understand trade and electronic/Voice communications and analyse these for the detection of potential Market Abuse.

  • Ability to handle escalated issues and take these forward with Senior Management.

  • Product Knowledge.

  • Knowledge of how financial markets and financial institutions operate.

  • Knowledge of and passion for financial markets.

  • Strong report writing skills.

  • Knowlwege of Market Abuse legislation and overseas regualtions an advantage.

  • Ability to support decisions with sound reasoning.

  • Ability to clearly articulate business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both RC and Business Management.

  • Ambition to enhance compliance knowledge and skillset in a rapidly changing and dynamic markets environment.

  • Ability to use and quickly adapt to technological resources available for surveillance activities.
    What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Actively contribute towards building a strong Compliance and financial / non financial operational risk control structure within the team.

  • Keeping up to date with general Compliance and Regulatory Compliance knowledge and gaining successful pass marks for knowledge sample assessments.
