OCONUS Nortel Switch Technician (SL-100/CS-1000/Voice)

What will you be doing
Operating, maintaining and programming SL-‎100 and CS-‎1000 (Nortel) multi-
function switches.Additional roles and responsibilities include, but are not
limited to the following:
* Remote dial-in to resolve maintenance issues and restore system.
* Terminates and splice Category ‎5/‎6, coaxial, and fiber optic cables to telephone frame and interconnecting equipment.
* Repair and test copper and fiber cable.
* Troubleshoot and resolves problems; implements solutions. This will include performing operations and maintenance on switching system, IGX digital interface, transmission equipment, ancillary and other related equipment. Installing hardware and system upgrade, performs system reconfiguration, tests and documents systems changes.
* Analyze traffic load and administers telephone number assignments.
* Troubleshoots and corrects copper and fiber optic cable problems for lack of continuity, noise, signal loss and degradation, improper termination, excessive loss and intermittent problems.
* Establishes and maintains cable records, uses database software such as Remedy to track and monitor job orders. Interprets drawings to troubleshoot, install and make recommendations for new facilities and upgrades.
* Performs other duties and assignments as required
Minimum requirements
* Active DoD Secret Clearance OR ability to successfully secure secret clearance
* Associates degree, ‎2 year technical degree, relevant military experience, equivalent special electronics training, or equivalent work experience
* ‎3 or more years of experience plus electronics training in one or more of the following fields: telecommunications Nortel Sl-‎100 or DMS-‎100 switching systems
* Valid driver's license
* Valid US Passport
* Demonstrated knowledge of the following technologies and/or platforms: voice switch infrastructure experience including Nortel SL-‎100; digital communications including: DS1, DS3, Fiber, ISDN; operating systems and applications including: Windows, MS Office; computer support experience including: PC hardware and configurations, troubleshooting; power experience including, Lorain, DC distribution systems, troubleshooting; and telecom experience including: T1 and DACS. Familiarity with Federal customers is a plus.
* Intermediate training in at least ‎3 of the following areas: data communications, digital communications, operating systems and applications, telecommunications, computer support, project management, and/or power.
* Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems, stored program control, and power.
* General knowledge in the use of electronic test equipment
* Experience and knowledge of transmission facilities (OC48, T3, T1, and DSO)
* Strong programming and computer skills with emphasis on applications
* Ability to work extremely flexible hours and support on-call duties and shift work
* Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously
* Meet in country employment requirements
DESIDRED:
* Demonstrated knowledge of Meridan ‎1 products is a plus
* Experience in LAN/WAN operations and IP connectivity is a plus.
