Job Purpose:
The Government Relations and Public Affairs (GRPA) Global Strategic
Partnerships & Engagement Lead is a global position, reporting to the VP GRPA
Strategy in a newly formed GRPA Centre of Excellence (CoE).
The GRPA CoE aims to protect and enhance the reputation and shareholder value
of the company. The mission is to act as the company's eyes, ears, and voice
in the external world to build and sustain the business' license to operate.
GRPA will mitigate reputational risks and create a positive climate of opinion
for DP World's business activities by engaging with governments, civil
society, multi-laterals, NGOs, and trading associations, through enduring
relationships built on the foundations of trust and delivery of mutual value.
The purpose of this role is to lead DP World's GRPA strategic partnerships and
engagements with governments and civil society organisations with the
responsibility to build and sustain a positive climate of opinion and license
to operate for DP World. These entities are diverse in remit, scope, form,
agenda, and aspirations, from major governmental collaborations (like COP and
G20); intergovernmental organisations (like the UN and OECD); for a and
platforms in which governments, businesses and NGOs cooperate (like WEF);
International Non-Governmental Organisations; to single-issue NGOs which seek
support from all players to confront specific challenges of global relevance.
The GRPA Global Strategic Partnerships & Engagement Lead operates within the
strategic framework of the Group Business Strategy, Brand Purpose,
Sustainability, Impact Strategy and the overall Government Relations and
Public Affairs strategy - and crucially works closely with DP World Businesses
to ensure alignment and support for commercial objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
Strategy. To develop and maintain of DP World's GRPA Global Strategic
Partnerships and Engagement Strategy, based on:
* assisting in the consideration of changes to enhance the value potential of existing partnerships and to assess the potential of new relationships with other relevant entities
* on the desired nature of the various partnership relationships and clarity on the targeted reputational capital and business value to be generated
* experience and best practices in designing activations to bring these partnerships to life to the benefit of DP World
Planning. Developing a year-long engagement plan with new and existing
stakeholders and partners, based on:
* agreed immediate term objectives for GRPA of specific business objectives at global, regional, and local levels
* clear definition of high priority external stakeholders based on profiles of who they are, what they want and how their attitudes and behaviours impact DP World business
* proposals for programmes of advocacy, event management, and thought leadership to activate key partnership relationships in support of these specific DP World objectives
Implementation. To scope and recommend resources required to implement the
plan, including:
* project management processes & systems, detailing objectives, key activities, budgets, timelines, and collaborative responsibilities/accountabilities (RACI)
* deployment and management of appropriate internal and external resources
* overall management of all projects: to maintain focus and momentum; to ensure overall consistency and respect for partner interests; and to encourage the sharing of best GRPA practices
Measurement. To establish and source data for a 'dashboard' of high-level
metrics to bring a robust ROI perspective to:
* measuring the effectiveness of GRPA strategic partnerships and engagements
* tracking progress in building positive attitudes to DP World amongst targeted stakeholders
* monitoring the impact of such positive attitudes on DP World business performance
Tactical Responsiveness. To maintain the ability to respond to unforeseen
circumstances and changes in the operating environment, including:
* best practice preparation for Crisis Management and Crisis Communication
* the flexibility to respond to issues or problems which were not specifically anticipated
* the capacity to grasp unforeseen short-term opportunities
Continuous Improvement. To encourage and nurture a culture of Innovation
designed to:
* test and validate new ideas and approaches
* draw on experience and learning from the wider global GRPA function
* expand and strengthen professional skill sets and best practices at all levels
Compliance . To constantly adhere to and actively promote behaviours
which reflect the DP World Brand Purpose while specifically:
* maintaining the highest levels of safety standards
* absolute compliance with Our Principles, Code of Conduct and Ethical policies
* meeting all agreed standards for DP World Brand and Visual Identity
The Government Relations and Public Affairs (GRPA) is a new global Centre of
Excellence in DP World. Its aim is to establish a world-class cadre of
specialists and practitioners, capable of leading-edge performance in shaping
the operating environment and supporting the Business Strategy.
The GRPA Strategic Partnerships & Global Engagement Lead is a key global
position, tasked to bring a strategic and commercially relevant perspective to
the management of key external stakeholders' relationships, while also
required to deliver operational excellence in the delivery of plans to
coordinate best practices across multiple projects and programmes. Success
will be measured by progress in building and sustaining the desired
positioning of DP World with key stakeholders; in strengthening the company's
license to operate; and, most importantly, delivering tangible impacts on the
company's business performance.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
The paramount qualification for this role is a proven track-record as an
experienced practitioner in planning and implementing a Government Relations
and Public Affairs programmes at a global, regional, and local level with
evidence of effective project management of complex projects within dynamic
environments and the capability to deliver against agreed objectives and
targets.
* The successful candidate will have a minimum of ‎8 years' experience in managing projects/programmes in GRPA setting or closely related fields . He or she will be well-educated to tertiary level
* Outstanding communicator: A high level of proficiency and sophistication in both spoken and written English is essential. Other language skills will be beneficial but not essential
* A working understanding of the ways in which governments, NGOs and civil society entities impact commercial organisations is clearly critical, as is an understanding of how to leverage these platforms to build corporate reputation and brand
* Expertise in research, data-gathering, analysis, and reporting is required
* Ability to manage and motivate a team to drive results
* Strong inter-personal skills as the role requires the ability to create and sustain relationships across a diverse range of constituencies. Accomplished skills in communication and team working are necessary, as is sensitivity to cross-cultural differences and a positive perspective on issues of diversity and inclusiveness
* Uncompromising standards of personal integrity and maturity of judgement that must meet the requirements and expectations of all DP World personnel. Unquestioning adherence to company and legal ABC policies, laws and regulations in all applicable jurisdictions is required
* Good knowledge of governance and business control frameworks. Evidence of strong analytical skills
* Can-do attitude in accomplishing what is necessary, either through own efforts or through others
* Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural and diverse stakeholder environments
