About the department


Reporting into the Library & Learning Services Manager, the Library Assistant
plays a vital role in assisting and supporting library patrons, particularly
students, in their academic success. This position focuses on facilitating
access to resources, promoting information literacy, and offering guidance on
research and learning tools. The Library Learning Support Assistant works
closely with library staff and faculty to create a welcoming and productive
learning environment within the library.
Requirements & Responsibilities


Information Literacy Instruction:
* Conduct workshops and one-on-one sessions to teach information literacy skills, including effective research strategies, citation styles, and source evaluation.
* Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy instruction into the curriculum.
Patron Assistance:
* Provide friendly and knowledgeable assistance to library users, addressing their inquiries and helping them locate materials.
* Assist patrons in the use of library catalog systems, databases, and digital resources.
* Offer guidance on finding relevant research materials, both print and electronic.
Promote Library Services:
* Participate in outreach activities and promote library services, workshops, and events to the campus community.
* Create and maintain informative displays and guides to assist patrons.
Resource Management:
* Aid in organizing and maintaining library collections, ensuring materials are properly shelved and accessible.
* Assist in the selection and acquisition of relevant resources, both physical and digital, in collaboration with library staff.
Technology Support:
* Assist patrons with library technology, including photocopiers, printers, and computer workstations.
* Troubleshoot basic technical issues and refer complex problems to appropriate IT personnel.
Reference Services:
* Provide reference services by helping patrons identify and locate relevant research materials.
* Assist with interlibrary loan requests and document delivery services.
Administrative Duties:
* Maintain accurate records of library usage, statistics, and inventory.
* Assist in the development and maintenance of library policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Education, Library Science, or a related field (Master's degree in Education is a plus).
* Knowledge of information literacy principles and library research tools.
* Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
* Proficiency in library systems and technology.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic library environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience working in an academic library or educational setting.
* Familiarity with current educational technologies and e-learning platforms.
* Knowledge of diverse academic disciplines and subject areas.
