Purpose and Scope of the Job

The home care nurse assistant shall work under the supervision of the home
care administration. The home care nurse assistant shall provide direct and
indirect age specific care for assigned patients outside hospital facilities.
The home care nurse assistant shall attend the patient and help his/ her in
their activities of daily living and promote comfort and better quality of
life. The home Care Nurse Assistant shall work as per scheduled shifts
assigned by the Home Care program.

Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards

Clinical Responsibilities

• Prevent the spread of infection at home, in the client's room.


• Teach and aware family members on all safety measures to be taken for the new born or the elderly patient.


• Document all activities done on the patient data sheet.


• Inform the supervisors in case of any changes or deterioration in the client's condition


• Bathe the client (new born, bed ridden, ambulatory patient)


• Dress the client (from assisting to total dependent dressing)


• Assist the patient to eliminate his feces (assisting with bedpans and urinals, providing incontinent care as needed, assisting resident to bathroom)


• Do the bedding for bed ridden patients


• Catheter care (emptying drainage bags, recording intake and output)


• Assist in feeding (feeding residents, serving meals, assisting with hydration needs, prepare formulas for new born)


• Help with Range of motion exercises and position the patient when needed to prevent bed sores.


• Assist in ambulation or transporting patient in wheelchair and ambulation with walkers and canes


• Organize patient's room, preserve his personal belonging.


• Read for the patient if required


• Perform Post mortem care when needed.


• Report any misuse or damage of any instrument or equipment used.

Development and Planning

• Develop a prevention program according to the patient's case (prevention of bed sores, prevention of pneumonia…) following the Home Care guidelines.


• Respect patient's confidentiality and privacy


• Preserve patient's dignity


• Value patient's cultural believes and religious needs.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to perform lifting.


• Ability to bathe the patient alone


• Ability to deal with heavy weight patients


• Change patient's position when needed.


• Ability to work for extended period of time while standing .


• Apply the ergonomic guidelines while working.

Working Condition

• To be able to work under stress.


• Able to travel with patients when needed for few days.


• Able to adapt to the patient's home environment .


• Able to attend training when needed outside the work hours .


• Able to work on shift rotation basis.

Qualifications, Competences and Skills

Education

Certified in health care and preferable midwifery or any equivalent degree.

Experience

• Has at least two (‎2) years of experience as Home Care Nurse assistant


• Preferable to have experience in pediatric or new born filed

• Able to read and write in English


• Able to communicate in English with preference to Arab speakers
