Creative Team Lead
About the job
Role: Team Lead of the Creative Team’s Educational Content Developers
Place: Remote, Europe
Language: Professional or native English
We are seeking a dynamic Team Lead for our Creative Team, who will champion
the development of engaging, educational content and experiences that resonate
with our kids. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who thrives in a
remote startup environment and has a proven track record of leading creative
teams to success. You are our ideal candidate if
You have 3+ years of management experience in a remote startup environment.
This position is ideally your third job (give or take one), demonstrating a
progression in leadership and creative roles.
You're a people's person, known for your excellent communication skills,
empathy, and ability to accommodate team and project needs. You’ll lead a team
with ~8 very talented people.
You have a track record of trusting your team. Yo prefer to choose
collaborative tools and leadership structures over micromanaging the team.
You’re known for your energetic presence, often described as 'good crazy' in
the best ways by your peers. We are artistic creators and we work with
children, so in a way, we’re professional kids. You need to be able blending
in.
You nurture life at home, be it children, pets, or plants, reflecting your
ability to foster growth and sustainable well-being.
You demonstrate an openness to the world (exploring, traveling, volunteering,
social work, mission-driven etc.), BUT you keep your personal and professional
environment clean and organised at the same time.
You are passionate about education, technology, and making a positive impact
on the future generation.
You meet your deadlines.
(you don’t have to tick all of them, but if you got excited about the list and
your match, please proceed)
This is us - STEAM Academy.
STEAM Academy is a rapidly expanding EdTech startup on a mission to become the
premier provider of after-school Robotics activities for children aged 4-14 in
the USA and Ireland. Leveraging state-of-the-art LEGO Education Spike Prime
robots and our innovative Revolution Robotics, we offer a unique educational
experience. Our curriculum, inspired by a Marvel-like universe, empowers
children to become superheroes, using their curiosity, problem-solving skills,
and artistic creativity to make meaningful changes in the world. We integrate
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths, and programming, all while
aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 30). Our program also
focuses on digital competence, incorporating popular games like Minecraft and
Roblox to teach internet safety and develop healthy relationships with
technology. At STEAM Academy, we believe the most exciting game is real life.
Responsibilities:
Lead and inspire a team of ~8 creative professionals in the development of
educational content and materials (primarily robotics and programming).
Collaborate with Product Development and other departments to align creative
vision with STEAM Academy's educational goals and values. Fair disclaimer: we
are ambitious!
Oversee projects from conception to completion, ensuring they meet quality
standards and deadlines.
Foster a collaborative, innovative, and supportive team environment.
Generate and develop creative ideas that resonate deeply with children.
Implement strategies to enhance creativity and productivity within the team.
Liaise with stakeholders to gather feedback and continuously improve our
offerings.
Requirements:
You are a seasoned manager. Most probably, you worked with most of the
project-management tools out there at some point in your career.
You have experience or a natural interest in education from the teaching side
and an understanding of child psychology and development.
You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability
to convey complex ideas clearly and inspire teams across different locations.
You speak proper English. Highly proficient, near-native & native is the level
we’re looking for.
You’re one of the people who plan your time and usually meet your deadlines.
You can apply and scale this ability for a whole team.
You have a taste and compass (and maybe experience) in aesthetic design. We
create things that look good, feel good, and we go the extra mile if we have
the resources and time. You must have a basic sense of aesthetics to navigate
in this team.
Advantage if you are a “story-junkie” (share and consume story-based media)
and/or play RPGs (in person or digitally). Your future team creates whole
worlds with imagination, so you must navigate comfortably.
You like to work on a product that impacts children. You share our commitment
to fostering curiosity, problem-solving, and a desire for meaningful change in
young minds. And, of course, you at least need to understand children
What do we offer:
A competitive salary, possibility to grow as a manager and beyond.
An awesome remote team full of creative minds who love gaming, content
creation and kids.
The possibility to work from anywhere in Europe
A meaningful mission to impact millions of children for them to become the
PROs of the future.
To experience work in a fast-growth startup
We are probably not a match if…
You don’t have the hunger to pursue a company mission aimed at kids.
You get lost in a remote environment. You should be able to work independently
with all the pros and cons of being away from team members. And you should be
able managing a team doing exactly the same.
You don’t speak English enough. Our English content is used by native kids in
Ireland and the USA.
You take feedback as criticism or you’re not excelling in giving feedback. In
this team, we are artistic creators. Some things are outstanding, and some
directly go into the bin. We learn and iterate fast, feedback is a key element
in this.
You prefer a highly structured, traditional corporate environment over a
dynamic, fast-paced , sometimes unstructured startup culture. Or if you prefer
“just going with the flow” too much.
You lean towards an authoritative style of leadership rather than a
collaborative one. While we recognize the value of all leadership styles, our
current one needs to align more closely with those who excel in fostering
collaboration.
Please apply if you are excited and ready to contribute to a brighter future
and meet the above criteria. What we would like to see:
Your resume.
A cover letter explaining why you're the perfect fit for this role.
Your most complex project as a team leader and a description of the biggest
struggle you solved (and how).
One of your artistic creation (could be you or your teams) that you like.
