Senior Oracle/Sybase Database Administrator (DBA)
About the job
Job Role:
Role will be responsible for managing and maintaining mission-critical
databases, ensuring their optimum performance, security, and availability. In
addition, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and
implement effective database solutions, adhering to industry best practices
and compliance standards.
Responsibilities:
Installation, configuration, and maintenance of Oracle and Sybase database
systems
Performance tuning and optimization of database systems for maximum efficiency
Monitoring and troubleshooting database issues and resolving them in a timely
manner to minimize downtime
Designing and implementing backup and recovery strategies to ensure data
integrity
Implementing and maintaining database security measures and permissions
Collaborating with development teams to optimize database schema and queries
Providing technical guidance and expertise to junior DBAs within the team
Ensuring compliance with industry regulations and data privacy laws
Staying up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends in database
management
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
(or equivalent work experience)
Minimum of ‎10 years of experience as an Oracle and/or Sybase DBA in the
banking or financial services industry
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Oracle Database (‎10/11g and
above) and/or Sybase (ASE/IQ) , experience in Oracle cloud is an added value
Proficiency in database administration, performance tuning, security, and
backup/recovery processes
Understanding of database architecture, SQL, and stored procedures
Familiarity with scripting languages such as Shell, Python, or Perl
Experience in Oracle / Sybase replication
Experienced in ETL and data management and transformation
Experience with database monitoring tools and performance tuning techniques
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment
Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
Technical Competencies:
Expertise in Oracle Database (11g and above) or Sybase ASE/IQ
Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating systems
Sound knowledge of SQL scripting, Stored Procedures, and Oracle Forms
Proficiency in database performance tuning and optimization techniques
Experience with backup and recovery mechanisms (RMAN, Data Pump, or Sybase
backups)
Knowledge of replication technologies (Oracle Data Guard, Sybase Replication
Server) is a plus
Understanding of database security and permissions management
Experience with database monitoring and management tools (Oracle Enterprise
Manager, Sybase Central)
