* Purpose of the Consultancy
To support countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) to build and
enhance their capacities on travel health and to develop roadmap on
establishing/enhancing travel health programs in countries.

• Background
  The mission of WHO's Health Emergencies Program is to build the capacity of
  Member States to manage health emergency risks and, when national capacities
  are overwhelmed, to lead and coordinate the international health response to
  contain outbreaks and to provide effective relief and recovery to affected
  populations.
  As the world grows more interconnected, it is easier for people to travel from
  one location to another, which increases the likelihood of disease
  transmission. As a result of rapid and severe changes in altitude, humidity,
  and temperature, as well as exposure to a variety of infectious diseases,
  international travel can pose numerous health concerns including infectious
  disease transmission. In areas with poor hygiene and sanitation and fragile
  health systems, more severe health hazards may be anticipated. Moreover,
  accidents are a common source of morbidity and mortality among travelers.
  Therefore, travel health is gaining significant importance to identify the
  health risks associated with travel, protect the travelers' health, and
  minimize the risks of accident and of acquiring disease and prevent the cross-
  border and international spread of disease. The risk of cross-border spread of
  disease are especially high in areas where there are weak health systems and
  weak surveillance systems, making it difficult to detect and respond to
  emerging infectious diseases. As such, it is important for travelers to be
  aware of the risks associated with travel and the potential for the spread of
  disease.

The objective of this consultancy is providing technical support to the
Eastern Mediterranean Region in areas of travel health and to develop policy
brief, clear roadmap and deliver webinar on travel health to EMR countries.

  Description of duties
  Work to be performed:

  
  


• Design and conduct a survey to assess the status of travel health programs in countries of the Region.


• Conduct ‎1-‎2 countries missions to collect detailed information on the nature of travel health programs


• Prepare and organize a regional meeting to introduce the topic, discuss the outcomes of the survey, strengths, challenges, and way forward.


• Develop a policy brief and conduct ‎1-‎2 webinars targeting decision makers for awareness raising and advocacy purposes.

  Develop a roadmap with clear actions for establishing and enhancing travel health programs in countries of the Region based on the discussion during the regional meeting.

Specific requirements
* Education:
Essential
* Master's degree in biological science, public health or related domain

Desirable
* Post graduate diploma in travel medicine, training in one or more of the following fields: health surveillance, public health, emergency preparedness, travel and health, Point of Entry capacities

• At least ‎10 years of experience of work in fields related to International Health Regulations (‎2005), international travel and transport/ points of entry public health issues,

• Experience working with WHO,

  Demonstrated international experience, in particular working at country-level.

‎9. Travel
The Consultant is expected to travel. Destination and duration of
travel will be identified through the progress work identified in-countries.
All travel arrangements will be made by WHO - WHO will not be
responsible for tickets purchased by the Consultant without the express, prior
authorization of WHO. While on mission under the terms of this consultancy,
the Consultant will receive subsistence allowance .
Visas requirements: it is the consultant 's responsibility to fulfill
visa requirements and ask for visa support letter(s) if needed.
