About the Role


We are looking for an experienced and passionate Special Education Needs and
Disabilities Coordinator
to join our team at GISC for the next academic
year.
An experienced teacher with a passion for supporting pupils with special
educational needs. Working closely with the SEND, EAL (English is an
Additional Language), and SEL/counseling team and other senior colleagues, you
will use your leadership skills to manage provision in your school and to
provide support to pupils. Your responsibilities will include designing and
delivering interventions with pupils in the classroom and implementing the
school strategy. You may also have teaching support duties.
The minimal standards for application:
* Several years of experience working in Special Education
* A qualification in Special Education or Psychology. Desirable MA in Special Education
* Able to assess and diagnose SEND students and complete IEPs, as well as applications for additional support, time and/or specific accommodations for assessments and accommodations with exam boards
* Demonstrated ability to lead professional staff in inclusion PD activities
* Demonstrated ability to accommodate/ modify curriculum accommodation/ modification for SEND and EAL students
* Previous experience in a leading a team
* Worked with SEND pupils
* Experienced with behavioral and social/emotional conditions and student supports
Professional duties and responsibilities
The duties outlined in this job description are listed below and cover the
position for Special Education Needs and Disabilities Coordinator
(SENDCo)/Head of Additional Needs and Disabilities Department Head. This staff
member must encourage inclusion in our school community. The individual must
advocate for the student 's individual needs and lead the Special Education
Needs, Counseling, and English as an Additional Language team. The SENDCo must
ensure a working relationship with specialists within and outside the school
community to provide ongoing intervention to support pupil progress.
Teaching and Learning
‎1. Identify and adopt the most effective teaching approaches for SEN (Special
Education Needs) pupils and EAL pupils.
‎2. Monitor teaching and learning activities to meet the needs of SEN pupils
and EAL (English is an Additional Language) pupils.
‎3. Liaise with other schools/ centers to ensure continuity of support and
learning when transferring SEN pupils.
‎4. Promote Inclusion best practice and contribute to the aims and ethos of
the school through close communication with the senior leadership team and
when possible, attendance at school events.
‎5. Ensure students are learning from at an appropriate pace within the
established or modified curriculum.
‎6. Ensure that pupils have access to differentiated work options in the
mainstream classrooms.
‎7. Teach and implement strategies to staff members to support differentiation
within the classrooms.
