Position Summary
Evaluates new and emerging technologies and assesses their potential for
inclusion in smart city proof of concepts, pilots, and experiences. Leads
highly technical experiments to explore innovative approaches to problems.
Creates an environment for agile experimentation and conducts hackathons and
rapid prototyping workshops. Mentors young talent and new recruits.
Major Responsibilities
* Leads the process of identifying and evaluating new and innovative digital capabilities and technologies.
* Assesses new technologies through hands-on experimentation and workshops.
* Explores new concepts and sometimes unproven ideas to identify potential use in the near or long term.
* Formulates an emerging technology portfolio that will set the foundation for future building blocks.
* Defines, researches, and champions an emerging technology agenda or roadmap.
* Maintains a deep interest in current and emerging state-of-the-art technologies and products.
* Sponsors and organizes innovation challenges and hackathon events to enlist community and partner participation.
* Collaborates with other stakeholders to jointly deliver impactful events with national and global reach.
* Collaborates with cross-functional technology teams to instigate a "test, learn, iterate" approach to emerging technology adoption.
* Works with external technology partners to identify, prototype and test new products and services, and incorporate solutions into new capabilities.
* Sponsors Work Internship Student Experience (WISE) interns and provides mentorship, guidance, goals, and objectives.
* Manages Early Career Accelerator Program (ECAP) recruits and assigns them to specific experiments and pilots.
* Utilizes young talent from WISE and ECAP to study and research new trends and ideas.
* Represents the University at relevant conferences and seminars. Promotes the KAUST Smart brand and best practices in rapid prototyping and technology experimentation.
* Proactively seek opportunities for establishing, building and maintaining successful relationships with partners and stakeholders.
* Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee's knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of his/her position.
Competencies
Essential:
* Highly technical, hands-on experience in software, hardware, tools, systems, and devices.
* Working knowledge of scripting, coding, cloud, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality.
* Deep passion for experimentation, testing, and prototyping.
* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
* Strong desire to mentor, coach, and train others.
Preferred:
* Understanding of software development lifecycle and mobile app development.
* Understanding of DevOps practices.
Qualifications/Experience
Essential:
* 8+ years of technology experience in innovation labs, research facilities, or information technology.
* Master's degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related disciplines.
* Excellent English speaking, presentation, and writing skills.
* Strong concepts of agile frameworks, rapid prototyping, technology design, and innovation methodologies.
Preferred:
* Background in product design and development.
* Experience in training or teaching
