JOB DESCRIPTION
KAPSARC seeks an in-house copyeditor for English to work as part of the
Publishing team. The copyeditor plays an important role in ensuring that
KAPSARC publications are produced efficiently and to the standard the Center
expects. Publications include but are not limited to long-form discussion or
methodology papers, shorter briefs and insights, and consulting reports.
Responsibilities:
* Editing documents for clarity, readability and structure, and to conform to house style and formatting requirements.
* Formatting references to Chicago Style.
* Formatting documents before they are edited by external agencies.
* Handling multiple deadlines and sudden requests.
* Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of all changes to the Associated Press Stylebook.
* Covering for the English Proofreader in their absence.
Qualifications:
* Master's degree plus 10 years' experience, or bachelor's degree plus 12 years' experience.
* Editing qualifications and/or professional membership.
* Native English speaker, and familiarity with US English usage.
* Working knowledge of the Associated Press Stylebook.
* Familiar with The Chicago Manual of Style.
* Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Previous experience in a recognized, high-level creative agency or academic setting.
* Previous experience of managing outsourcing to agencies and/or freelancers.
* Knowledge of energy and/or economics is preferred.
* Ability to work constructively with authors, including non-native English speakers, to help their work become clearer and more accessible to readers.
* Detail oriented.
* Excellent time-management skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
