Role Purpose:



  • To maintain and enhance professional development and academic quality in the teaching centre, through the management of in-house teacher development programme and support

  • To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English

  • To provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience

  • To support the wider aims of the British Council and its cultural relations mission


Job Overview


The British Council Teaching Centres in Saudi Arabia provide English language
training in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar to thousands of young Saudi men and
women each year in our own premises and off-site at companies and in partner
training institutes. All centres have public English courses in their teaching
centres and deliver off-site training to corporate clients, which vary from
government ministries to private companies. Our classes are equipped with
IWBs, digital courseware and internet connectivity. Around ‎1,000 young
learners and adult students attend courses each term, studying General English
and IELTS Preparation. There's a growing off-site corporate programme. Riyadh
TC management team is committed to a culture of professional development and
motivating teachers to strive to be the best they can be. There are regular
INSETT sessions, projects for teachers to become involved in, and a variety of
development opportunities.


Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:



  • Ensuring teaching meets learner needs and expectations

  • Ensuring teaching meets Teaching Quality standards and organisational expectations

  • Continuing professional development and sharing of best practices

  • Maintaining good relationships with customers and colleagues

  • Supporting the teaching centre's activities and British Council plans


Qualification


Essential



  • Cambridge CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL.


Desirables



  • PGCE/BEd in ESOL or other subject

  • MA in ELT or other relevant subject

  • DELTA or Trinity Diploma in TESOL


Work Experience


Essentials



  • ‎2 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL experience

  • Experience in teaching:

    • Lower Secondary aged ‎11 to ‎14

    • Upper Secondary aged ‎15 to ‎17

    • Primary aged ‎6 to ‎10

    • Adults General English ‎18+




Desirables



  • English for the Workplace

  • Experience teaching Arabic-speaking learners.


Language requirements -



  • Full proficiency in English across all ‎4 skills, equivalent to CEFR C2/IELTS Band ‎8/‎9 in each of ‎4 sections of the academic module.


Salary & Benefits:



  • Salary: ‎11,788 SAR to ‎14,555 SAR/ month (Depending on qualification & experience)

  • Housing Allowance: ‎2,500 SAR/ Month

  • Transport Allowance: ‎700 SAR/Month

  • Annual Leave: ‎30 days / Annual

  • Medical Insurance: Provide for self and accompanied dependants

  • Annual Airfare Allowance: For Self Only


Additional Information:



  • Location: Dammam, Saudi Arabia

  • Contract Type: ‎12 months (Renewable)

  • Work Schedule: The centre is usually open six days a week but sometimes external teacher training sessions are held on Fridays. The busy centres run classes from ‎8:00 AM through to ‎10:45 PM daily. All teachers are required to work evenings as this is our busiest time. Weekends are either Thursday/Friday or Friday/Saturday with this alternating throughout the academic year. The majority of young learner classes are on Saturdays. Teachers are also required to attend regular compulsory INSETT session as well as staff meetings - Please note : Work Schedule will be depend on business requirements

  • Right to Work/Passport Requirement: Candidates are expected to have researched whether they have the right to live and work in the country in which the role is based. Given that our offices have different legal status depending on the work we do in those countries, we recommend that you contact HR in country for additional information on the likelihood of securing a visa. Only at its discretion will the British Council provide support so please check first whether visa support is offered.

  • At present, due to Saudi Arabian legal restrictions, we are unable to employ applicants over the age of ‎59 years.

  • Candidates should ensure their degree and teaching certificates are available in order to proceed with the attestation steps required for the final stages of the visa process.

  • There is a local transfer restriction in KSA due to local legislation. All local applicants would be required to exit the country and re-enter to process a new work visa
