Job description

Main job roles and responsibilities:
* Teaching information literacy and research skills as part of supporting the curriculum and students' academic growth.
* Developing policies and procedures that ensure maximum accessibility, efficient operation, effective services and facility use.
* Collecting and cataloging library resources including books, films, and publications.
* Helping people locate reference and leisure reading materials.
* Performing regular audits of the information and inventory on file.
* Overseeing the check-out process for books and other resource materials.
* Ensuring the library meets the needs of precise groups of its users.
* Developing and maintaining a diverse collection of books and resources appropriate to the curriculum, students, and teaching and learning styles inherent within the school community.
* Coordinating the selection, ordering, circulation, and inventory of library/media materials; direct the processing of new books, periodicals, and technological selections for the library; complete requisitions for the purchase of books, technology, publications, equipment, and other library materials.
* Ensuring that books, tools, and resources are well organized, up-to-date and accessible to all school members.
* Fostering a library environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students.
* Working with teachers across all subject areas to ensure the use of the facility and by providing assistance regarding resources related to the curriculum.
* Organizing and deliver taught courses and individualized support on the research and technology skills necessary to access, evaluate, and use information effectively and responsibly to meet educational, personal, and recreational needs.
* Supporting sessions that are conducted in the library.
* Providing parents with information of the available resources and support them in accessing and using the library 's resources and services.
* Raising awareness among students, teachers, parents, and caregivers about ongoing reading and literature events, such as the Abu Dhabi Book Fair, National Reading Month, UAE Reading Challenge, etc.
* Actively seek external partnerships to enhance and compliment the library's offerings.
Qualifications, experience and skills required:
* Master's degree or equivalent in Library and Information Sciences, English or Arabic language and literature or similar.
* Further qualifications in Librarianship from ALA, CILIP, etc.
* ‎4+ years of experience leading a library in the UAE.
* Familiarity with regional and international library vendors (preferably Follett), electronic resources, and best practices for circulation/cataloging and access.
* Familiarity with children's and teen literature; ability to provide current and engaging readers' advisory services in order to foster a love of reading.
* Strong English language proficiency.
* Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
* Strong research skills.
