Scope and Purpose
* The role of Database Administrator is pivotal in ensuring the seamless and efficient operation of the ERP system within American University of Kuwait.
* Administer, maintain, and optimize the Ellucian Banner database, ensuring availability, reliability, and performance to provide a secure, responsive, and reliable platform for managing critical institutional data.
* Maintain data accuracy, consistency, and security within the ERP system through quality controls and validation rules to safeguard the integrity of sensitive institutional data, supporting accurate decision-making.
* Offer technical support to end-users, resolving database-related issues and facilitating data retrieval and reporting to empower users to maximize the ERP system's utility and efficiency in their daily tasks.
* Implement security measures and adhere to compliance standards to protect institutional data to ensure data security and maintain the institution's legal and reputational standing.
Monitor and optimize database performance, addressing bottlenecks and
enhancing query efficiency to enhance system responsiveness and scalability to
support institutional growth.
* Develop comprehensive backup and recovery plans to minimize data loss and downtime to ensure business continuity in the face of system failures or data corruption.
* Maintain documentation and collaborate with IT teams, developers, and administrators for system integration to foster knowledge sharing, continuity, and effective integration of systems.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Director-Information Technology.
Skills and Abilities
* A Bachelor's degree from a reputable college or university.
* Strong SQL skills for query optimization and data manipulation.
* Proficiency in working with database systems and related software.
* Prior experience with Ellucian Banner ERP environment is advantageous.
* Certifications in database administration or related areas.
* Knowledge of programming technologies like .NET, ASP, VB.NET, and Java is an added advantage.
* The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in Oracle database management with preferably strong focus on Ellucian Banner.
* Proficiency in project management, displaying emerging problem-solving skills, patience, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
* Ability to handle multiple tasks with effective time management and attention to detail.
* A quick learner who can engage in intensive work.
* Possess a collaborative team spirit, self-confidence, and developing communication skills.
