Job Description

Scope & Purpose:
Under direct supervision of the Dean's office of the College of Engineering &
Applied Sciences (CEAS) and general supervision of the Computing & Engineering
faculty, the Lab Technician provides supplemental support to faculty and small
groups of students enrolled in related undergraduate courses. The Lab
Technician will be directly responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of lab
equipment. Employees in this classification will develop, organize, and lead
student activities in the lab sections with guidance/direction from the Dean's
office and other faculty members, and supervise student interactions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
* Assists in the preparation of lab material for the Electrical Engineering majors.
* Assists in organizing Capstone and other lab events.
* Conducts orientation sessions for new faculty members on topics like, working with benches and health & safety inside the laboratory.
* Prepares laboratory equipment on a weekly basis for related sections and practice hours.
* Supports and assists lab instructors during lab sessions.
* Conducts functionality checks of critical lab equipment on a day-to-day basis.
* Maintains, calibrates and tests all the equipment in the laboratory.
* Undertakes in-house fixing of damages of the electronic equipment.
* Where necessary, liaises with the equipment vendors on matters of installation, and maintenance of equipment.
* Remains available for various lab sessions through-out the semesters.
* Updates equipment software from time to time as needed.
* Attends meetings as and when required.
* Undertakes other duties activities as assigned by the supervisor.
* Coordinates with IT and Campus Services for software and logistic arrangements.
* Coordinates with Finance and Dean's office for budgeting.
* Coordinates with Purchase Department to acquire quotations for new equipment and custom clearance for arriving lab equipment.
* Supports in proctoring theory and lab exams.
* Serves in various college committees.
Working Conditions:
* Work is normally done in a laboratory environment and with lab equipment.
* May be required to fix damaged equipment and maintain them in a good working condition.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, Master's degree is preferable.


• At least three (‎3) years of experience in handling a technical laboratory in an academic setting.


• Technical skills with electronic and electrical laboratory equipment.


• Computer skills- software and hardware.


• Written and spoken communication skills both in Arabic and English.


• Skills in communicating and coordinating with students and faculty.
