The Communications Advisor role is responsible for planning developing and
implementing Methanex's internal and external communication and branding
activities. A key part of this role is also event and crisis management;
supporting the design of communications strategies; creating new
communications channels; and liaison with stakeholders like the Senior
Leadership Team.
Content Development
* Demonstrates complex written communication and content development skills across all internal and external communication initiatives and channels.
* Ability to create relevant and creative stories from available content.
* Clearly delivers messages through different types of content.
* Ability to link ideas and messages to achieve content goals.
* Ability to edit and review content in a concise and impactful way.
* Provide recommendations about most appropriate content and communication channels.
* Ensures content follows brand guidelines and standards.
Internal Communications
* Develop the annual internal communication plan including objectives, strategy, messaging, and tactics.
* Design internal campaigns to support EMX strategy and manage their implementation.
* Manage the creative design, content development and production for the different communication and branding materials and collaterals.
* Revise translated copies of marketing materials.
* Support in creating new communication channels and opportunities within the company.
* Advise and support other departments in creation of promotional and branded material or campaign planning.
* Ensure that all output is aligned with organization values, mission, vision, and identity guidelines.
Brand Management
* Design, plan and implement communication campaigns for a variety of media, marketing, and public relations programs.
* Manage media monitoring process for key brand mentions and other business/stakeholders related news.
* Proactively identify key opportunities to successfully promote corporate and branding initiatives.
* Identify and follow up sponsorship opportunities to position Methanex as a market leader.
* Coordinate all organization advertising efforts to create awareness about the organization.
* Liaise with ad and design agencies to create ads and branded material.
* Ensure all communication channels (Intranet, Internet, Videos, etc.) are on brand.
* Develop and maintain a comprehensive photo and video library.
Event Management
* Organize and manage internal and external corporate events, including company celebrations, partnerships, anniversary, media events, VIPs/delegations special events, etc.
* Develop and follow a clear event plan with purpose, objectives, target audience/attendees, messaging, suppliers, needed materials and timeline.
* Manage the creative design, content development and production for the different event materials and collaterals.
* Serve as liaison and focal point with vendors on event-related matters.
* Lead event day preparations through supervision and coordination between the different suppliers.
* Manage the flow of the event as per the planned agenda/plan.
* Create post event report with key highlights and output.
Media Relations
* Prepare and develop key messages that reflect the company's values.
* Arrange public appearances, lectures, or exhibits to increase product awareness or to promote goodwill.
* Draft and distribute press releases, media comments and help to identify and research key media contacts.
* Receive and manage press enquiries, including setting up media interviews.
* Preparation of all media events.
* Manage development and production of media kits.
External Communications
* Manage the development of communication channels and materials such as the website, brochure, corporate presentation, Videos, etc.
* Support Public Affairs (PA) Manager in stakeholders mapping and management.
* Support in the development of key company messages as well as specific messages to each stakeholder group.
* Support PA manager in external comms planning related to government relations, media engagement, sector leaders and companies, contractors, etc.
Social Responsibility Communications
* Support senior social responsibility advisor/specialist in SR related communication, print materials, videos, events, etc.
* Ensure effective and impactful communication of all community initiatives internally and externally.
Crisis Communications:
* Manage media queries, statements, press conference, interviews if needed.
* Develop needed messages and content for communication with affected stakeholders, media, government, etc.
* Monitor media in case of news coverage and share with internal team. Keep close follow up on new updates and changes.
* Support PA manager in the event of crisis through assessing the situation and its impact on the different stakeholders, developing different crisis scenarios.
* Ensure clear communication to employees regarding the crisis.
* Liaise with the global crisis communication team on actions, messages, updates, and outcomes.
* Report and debrief about the crisis, actions taken, impact, lessons learnt and future mitigations.
Planning and Budgeting:
* Help keep track of the PA expenses by conducting requests for project quotations, processing purchase orders, verifying invoices, etc.
* Help achieve the PA department mission, goals, and financial objectives.
* Work with the Manager, PA to develop short- and long-term plans and budgets for the PA program, monitor progress, and assure adherence.
* Follow-up with the Finance department to make sure there are no pending payments related to the agencies that we are working with.
Responsible Care:
* Lead Safety communication internally in terms of designing campaigns focus on key safety concepts, behaviours, and messages.
* Demonstrate RC behaviour to achieve Company Responsible Care KPI's.
* Comply with Site safety rules, policies, and procedures.
* Commit to all RC initiatives such as Training, Health Checks, Industrial Hygiene Programs, Ergonomics program, Walk Downs, Audits…etc. whenever applicable.
* Cease immediately any work/activity should it be threating or has the potential to threaten lives, Environment or Properties.
* Report any hazard observations, near misses or incidents on the KMI system.
Experience/knowledge
* Minimum 9 years of experience in similar positions.
* Previous public relations and/or journalism experience is required.
* Strong content development and written communications experience and skills.
* Strong project management experience and skills.
* Experience with social media.
* Preferred to have experience in community development.
* Preferred to have experience with Crisis management (media).
* Preferred to have experience with managing junior members of a team.
Education/Training
* Bachelor's degree in integrated marketing communication, journalism, or any relevant discipline
* Additional Marketing, PR or social media certificates are a plus
Skills/other requirements
* Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
* Proficiency in Principles and practices of marketing, organizational branding and communications, journalism, and public and community relations.
* Good verbal and written Arabic language
* Excellent presentation skills
* IT proficiency
* Knowledge of video editing and design (photoshop, InDesign, etc.) is a plus
