Job Purpose:
The role of Government Relations and Public Affairs (GRPA) Geopolitical
Analysis Lead is a global position, reporting to the VP GRPA Strategy in a
newly formed Centre of Excellence .
This role sits at the intersection of economic, political, geopolitical, and
industry intelligence collection and analysis, helping DP World monitor key
markets, manage risk and identify opportunities and threats. The GRPA
Geopolitical Analysis lead will manage a wide range of intelligence functions
demanding an innovative and adaptable approach, handling significant volumes
of open source and other information and highlighting and organizing ideas and
facts in the production of relevant reports. The role will deliver general and
sector-specific, market-relevant geopolitical insights to help DP World
identify opportunities and risks in a rapidly-changing global environment.
GRPA aims to protect and enhance the reputation and shareholder value of the
company. The mission is to act as the company's eyes, ears and voice in the
external world to build and sustain the business' license to operate. To
mitigate reputational risks and create a positive climate of opinion for DP
World's business activities by engaging with governments, civil society,
multi-laterals, NGOs, and trading associations, through enduring relationships
built on the foundations of trust and delivery of mutual value.
The Geopolitical Analysis Lead operates within the strategic framework of the
Group Business Strategy, Brand Purpose, Sustainability, and Impact Strategy -
and crucially works closely with DP World Businesses to ensure alignment and
support for commercial objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
Strategy. To contribute to the development and maintenance of the ‎3-year
Global GRPA Strategy, based on:
* a well-informed understanding of DP World's business development objectives and the significant legal and regulatory challenges to be addressed
* the roles of GRPA activities in shaping favourable attitudes amongst critical stakeholders
* the collection and synthesis of data and insights to ensure the currency and relevance of GRPA initiatives and programmes
Planning. To collaborate in the development of Annual Global GRPA Plans,
based on:
* integrating inputs and perspectives from GRPA specialist Leads, Regional Heads of GRPA and external specialist agencies
* helping to ensure the overall coherence of GRPA plans (and conformance with the overall GRPA Strategy and all relevant DP World policies)
* actively encouraging the sharing of information, experience and best practices
Implementation. To provide advice and guidance in the delivery of
effective and cost-efficient implementation programmes, including:
* the application of templates and toolkits based on experience and best practices
* sharing of relevant data and insights from the external environment
* collaborative 'sounding-board' and challenge sessions to seek to enhance implementation quality
Measurement . To contribute to the establishment of standard
Measurement systems to track GRPA investment in ROI terms, specifically:
* performance of GRPA activities against objectives/KPIs
* impact on awareness and attitudes of key stakeholders
* linkages to the achievement of business objectives
Tactical Responsiveness. To maintain the ability to respond to unforeseen
changes, including:
* short-term opportunities
* issues or problems which were not anticipated
* Crisis Management and Crisis Communication
Continuous Improvement. To encourage and nurture a culture of Innovation
designed to:
* test and validate new ideas and approaches
* draw on learning from external practitioners and the function's own experience
* constantly expand and strengthen professional skill sets and best practices
Compliance . To constantly adhere to and actively promote behaviours
which reflect the DP World Brand Purpose while specifically:
* maintaining the highest levels of safety standards
* absolute compliance with Our Principles, Code of Conduct and Ethical policies
* meeting all agreed standards for DP World Brand and Visual Identity
Qualifications, Experience and Skills :
The paramount qualification for this role is a proven track-record as an
experienced practitioner in developing and managing the collection, analysis,
interpretation and reporting of political and geopolitical information at
global, regional and local levels - with evidence of the ability to link the
impact of this information with the operational and strategic aims of DP
World.
* The successful candidate will be well educated to tertiary level with a bachelor's degree in Political Science, Security Studies, International Relations, or a closely related field. Advanced degree (Master's or Law) in Political Science or International Relations preferred
* Outstanding communicator: A high level of proficiency and sophistication in both spoken and written English is essential. Other language skills will be a significant advantage.
* The successful candidate will have a minimum of ‎6 years' experience in GRPA or closely related fields; demonstrated experience in authoring policy papers is required, as is experience in writing analytical research reports
* Extensive experience with intelligence collection, policy and geopolitical research; data-gathering and analysis (both quantitative and qualitative) from multiple sources are essential requirements
* A well-informed understanding of the ways in which governments, NGOs and civil society entities impact commercial organizations is clearly critical
* A policy generalist orientation and ability to quickly assemble synthesised research and presentations is a must, as is the ability to integrate business information and political insights
* Strong inter-personal skills are important as the role requires the ability to create and sustain relationships across a diverse range of constituencies. Accomplished skills in communication and team working are necessary, as is sensitivity to cross-cultural differences and a positive perspective on issues of diversity and inclusiveness.
* Uncompromising standards of personal integrity and maturity of judgement must meet the requirements and expectations of all DP World personnel. Unquestioning adherence to company and legal ABC policies, laws and regulations in all applicable jurisdictions is required
* Good knowledge of governance and business control frameworks. Evidence of strong analytical skills
* Can-do attitude in accomplishing what is necessary, either through own efforts or through others
* Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural and diverse stakeholder environments
