Description
As we continue to grow, we are looking for a qualified and experienced whole
school doctor to join our growing team.
For all staff in school we share a responsibility to ensure that children are
safe and properly supervised at all times. Our school is committed to 'amazing

The Aquila School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare
of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share
this commitment. All post holders are subject to appropriate vetting
procedures and satisfactory Criminal Background Checks or equivalent covering
the previous 10 years ' employment history.

Key qualities and competencies:
* Experience of working with children and with the warmth and personality to relate well to all members of the school
* Confident and calm when dealing with a range of accidents and first aid issues
* Friendly, sympathetic and supportive personality
* Energetic, motivated and enthusiastic especially with children and essential for liaison with the school community
* Ability to use clinic/medical equipment; possess basic pharmacological knowledge
* Comfortable knowledge of universal procedures and ability to teach this to others
* Excellent command of the English language, in spoken and written form
* Good IT/computer skills
* Willing attitude to be a part of the school team
* Strong sense of professionalism
* Excellent knowledge & practice of safeguarding and child protection
* A collaborative team-player with excellent personal skills
Key duties include:
* Ensuring the best possible medical care is available to both children and staff on an immediate and an emergency care basis
* To ensure children are safe and well cared for at all times
* Treating children and staff as appropriate with the aim of encouraging children to return to their normal timetable as soon as appropriate
* Where necessary, arranging to get the child / person home safely or to alternative care, e.g. to hospital - having first checked with the Principal or Head of Primary
* Administering medication according to School policy - only when the medicines are clearly labelled with prescription details and the family has given written consent using the school pro forma (to be developed by the doctor)
* Performing necessary health checks to assist with diagnosis ensuring safe storage, usage and disposal of medical supplies and drugs
* Provision of first aid kits around the school and replacement of supplies
* Ensuring that medication such as Epipens are at hand for community members at risk and that signs indicate the location of these.
* To ensure that the school lifesaving equipment is always accessible and functional
* Timely maintenance of child files, medical records and medical centre attendance records
* Organisation of essential emergency medications on school sites other than the Clinic and Nursing Station
* Liaising with local health authorities in the organisation of immunisation programmes
* Managing the organisation of regular doctors' visits
* Liaison with families and staff in accordance with the School policies on medical and mental health
* To comply with our agreed policies and Aquila ways
* To actively participate in the performance management process of self and others
* To support children' health and wellbeing in order for children to fully participate in active school life
* To be able to develop positive working relationships with all members of the school community
* Able to work independently without medical back up on site
* The ability to demonstrate an understanding of school protocols and policies and a full acceptance of the need for compliance
* Willing to make a full contribution to the life of the School
* Arranging and managing communication with families with regard to consent
* Maintaining records on electronic register where appropriate
* Development of health care plans where appropriate; giving support to relevant teaching staff in their dealings with children in the classroom and in extra-curricular activities
* Regular meetings with relevant staff to provide advice on effective pastoral care for particular children
* Drafting and updating of "essential care list" of children with "need to know" conditions
* Providing general advice and training for staff for initial care of children with particular medical needs
Administration duties:
* Ensuring medical questionnaires and all relevant parental consent forms to administer or carry medicine etc. on entry to school and at agreed stages of school career are obtained and retained
* Assisting with the implementation and regular updating of child health care plans
* Maintaining electronic records of daily visits to School Clinic or accidents treated and reported, including the nature of problem, treatment or advice. Updating as necessary to ensure accurate and rapid retrieval of information
* When requested, provision of first aid updates for members of staff, particularly PE staff or those regularly involved in residential trips
* When requested, contributing to topics within the curriculum
* As appropriate, raising awareness of medical and health issues to the school community
Health and Safety
* Emphasizes the importance of safety in all areas of the curriculum, communicating to the pupils the importance of a responsible attitude towards personal safety, the safety of others and respect for The Aquila School's property and equipment
* Safeguard Aquila students
* Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
* Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
* Ensure that, all the necessary health and safety rules and procedures are being followed
* Maintain an awareness of all the health and safety measures to be taken when in school
In addition, all staff are required to carry out any tasks required by the
school or the regional office to facilitate the smooth day to day running of
the school
To be line managed by the head of safeguarding, inclusion and wellbeing
Hours of work- 7.15am-4.00pm Monday to Thursday and up to 12:00noon on
Fridays, plus occasional evening and weekend work- the school doctor is always
in school when there are children present for a school event.
Holidays- as per KHDA approved school calendar - the school will require
either the doctor or a nurse in school when the school is closed but Hemam
children are attending
