Purpose and Scope of the Job
Performs aerobic & anaerobic bacteriological cultures and antibiotic
sensitivity testing. Helps hospital infection control committee in running
surveillance tests.
Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards
1
Performs aerobic & anaerobic bacteriological cultures and antibiotic
sensitivity testing on various patients' samples received in the unit. Is able
to process samples both by manual and automated methods.

Prepares media required for culture of microorganisms, underproper and
standard conditions of sterilizationand disinfection.
3
Decontaminates used media rendering them harmless for safe disposal.
4
Performs necessary test procedures which help in proper identification of the
organism or potential pathogen.

Assists the hospital's infection control committee in the following:-
* Evaluates biological indicators sent from Medical waste autoclave and Dash Dental clinic.
* Performs environmental screening as part of Infection Control protocol and incase of outbreaks.

Performs Quality control procedures for microbiological stains, culture media
and antibiotic discs.

Technically and clinically validates patient results.

Carries out staining procedures like AFB stains etc

Monitors temperature of microbiology fridges, incubators and environment.

Monitors stock and expiry dates of microbiological reagents and tools and
ordering items needed.

Reports any technical difficulties to the Head of the department or the
laboratory Supervisor.

Runs external proficiency testing and investigatescauses of unaccepted failed
results.

Takes active participation in the departmental, interdisciplinary and external
CME programs.

Responsible to provide patient and family-centered care.

Ensures quality and patient safety practices are followed.

Promotes inclusive health by providing equitable and accessible care to
patients and families with special needs.
Qualifications, Competences and Skills
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Lab Technology
Experience
2+ year experience directly related to Clinical Microbiology & Bacteriology.
Training
1
Certification in BLS
2
Training in fire drills.
3
Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
4
Training on Chemical spill containment.
5
Training on Biological spill containment.
Licensure
Applicable
Language
High proficiencyin EnglishLanguage.
Computer Proficiency
Basic computer skills (Preferred)

Ability to prepare and process microbiology samples using established standard
