Job Role:
‎1 Visual Inspection – External inspection and internal inspection of
tonner/cylinder
Inspecting, cleaning, and reconditioning are assigned to responsible and
experienced toner testing technicians. The valves and Fusible plugs are
removed to facilitate close internal inspection. Inspect body threads for wear
and corrosion. Fusible Plugs and valves in the Toner have to be replaced
during its testing.
The testing technician is responsible to prepare the interior of the
tonner/cylinder for inspection by removal of internal scale or other
conditions, that would interfere with the inspection of the inner surface. A
good inspection light of sufficient intensity (Bore Light) to clearly
illuminate the internal wall is mandatory for internal inspection.
In case any weld defects are observed during visual inspection the testing
technician must recommend to supervisor/inspection engineer to cylinder reject
the tonner.
Following are the defects generally checked by testing technicians during
visual inspection:
• Dents
• Cuts, Gouges or Digs
• Corrosion or Pitting
• Weld Defects
• Bulges
The container shall be checked for serious dents or gouges, corrosion,
exposure to fire, general distortion or any other defects that might indicate
a weakness, which would render it unfit for service.
‎2 Hydrostatic Test:
Testing technician responsible to evaluate Mechanical integrity of tonner by a
hydro test combined with careful visual inspection. Thickness check using
Ultrasonic meters.
‎3 Hydrostatic Expansion Check:
During Hydrostatic test the permanent expansion and the percentage expansion
etc. shall be recorded by the testing technician
‎4 Other Tests:
Following other non-mandatory tests on chlorine toner cylinder
‎1. Ultrasonic thickness check
‎2. Magnetic Particle Test
‎3. Dye Penetrant Test
‎4. Hammer Test
Following are the testing steps followed at the chlorine Testing Station
before refilling:
‎1. Removal of residual chlorine from the cylinder
(The containers are emptied under slight vacuum, by a suitable absorption
system).
‎2. Cleaning inside with diluted caustic
‎3. Hydrostatic test
‎4. Hydrostatic Volumetric expansion check
‎5. Drying with steam
‎6. Drying by air
‎7. Internal cleaning
‎8. Visual inspection of tonner internal part using Bore Lamp
‎9. pressure testing of the various chlorine tonner/cylinder
