Job Description
Chemonics seeks a Chief of Party for the anticipated USAID-funded Egypt Red
Sea Sustainable Tourism project. This project aims to expand and
institutionalize a sustainable tourism growth model in the southern Red Sea
region through support for conservation initiatives undertaken by public,
private, and nonprofit sectors in close coordination with local communities.
The project will undertake this goal through three objectives: 1) Local
communities derive sustained benefits from green growth and conservation; 2)
The Red Sea is effectively managed consistent with international standards for
sustainability; and 3) Investment in sustainable tourism is increased.
The Chief of Party will oversee project implementation, providing overall
leadership, management, and technical direction to achieve project objectives.
The Chief of Party will also serve as the key liaison between USAID, Egyptian
government counterparts, and other public and private sector stakeholders.
This is an international position to be based in Egypt. Exact office location
within Egypt is to be determined. We are looking for individuals who have a
passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
* Provide overall leadership, management, and technical direction, ensuring a common vision among project staff and stakeholders while integrating activities under different expected results and objectives
* Serve as the primary point of contact for USAID/Egypt
* Identify issues and risks related to program implementation in a timely manner, suggesting appropriate program adjustments and ensuring compliance with Chemonics policies and USAID regulations
* Manage project staff and subcontractors
* Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, USAID/Egypt, Egyptian government counterparts, and other public and private sector stakeholders
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in tourism management, natural resource management, business, marine conservation, or another relevant field preferred
* Minimum of 15 years of experience working on international projects dedicated to tourism, international economic growth, or environmental conservation, including at least 5 years successfully managing complex, multidisciplinary USAID economic growth or conservation programs in a leadership position
* Demonstrated practical experience developing tourism at local and national levels through sustainable, market-oriented approaches that enhance products, diversify experiences, improve quality, conserve the environment, and engage local communities
* Destination marketing and management experience, including deep knowledge of generating investment and building infrastructure to support the growth of local markets and comply with international standards for sustainability
* Experience leading institutional strengthening, regulatory reform, and the enhancement of policy advocacy programs in a developing country context
* Demonstrated ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with senior government personnel, NGO partners, U.S. and foreign government organizations, donor partners, and the private sector
* Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing; strong interpersonal skills
* Experience working in Egypt preferred
* Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
* Fluency in English required; proficiency in Arabic preferred
