Job Introduction
I nternational Operations provides the infrastructure and production
facilities for BBC News internationally, leading on the delivery of safe,
secure and compliant operations. We support our editorial teams to create
engaging content and grow our global audience.
International News is at the heart of the BBC. BBC News Group employs
approximately ‎2,000 staff in ‎74 news bureaux around the world. It provides
multimedia services to a global weekly audience of over ‎489 million, in
English and more than ‎42 languages around the clock, every day of the year.
Bureaux react to breaking news, provide news updates and analysis and produce
live programmes and online output.
International Operations team support all News Group international bureaux.
They manage all the office budgets and oversee international projects and
provide a single interface with Technology, Finance, HR and the BBC's other
professional service teams and experts.
We are recruiting an Operations Engineer who will report to the Technical
Manager and will help with technical operations and affairs in the BBC Cairo
Bureau.
Main Responsibilities
As Operations Engineer, you will provide a professional technical support
service for broadcast and office to our Egypt operations, spanning a variety
of technologies, and within a service management culture.
You will be expected to provide support for RF and Satellite communications
equipment, network devices, BBC Windows ‎10 Computers and Windows Server
platforms including Exchange Online and cloud services.
Are you the right candidate?
To be successful in this role you will be expected to have a good
understanding of DNS, DHCP, VPN, multicasting and information security. A
working knowledge of Mac and Linux would be an advantage and a detailed
understanding of service delivery and service support within a Service Level
Management framework.
Other skills required for this role include:
* Good Arabic and English language skills.
* Demonstrable and credible experience in operations engineering.
* Good knowledge of the output of the World Service and its aims and objectives and the programme needs of other parts of the BBC.
* An up-to-date knowledge of all relevant technologies, including RF & Satellite Communications, Digital Broadcasting, Networks, and audio/video capture and distribution.
* An appreciation of the information technology needs of the BBC Cairo Bureau.
* Excellent organizational skills. Experience of prioritizing own workload, the ability to self-manage under pressure to produce accurate work and meet deadlines
