Data Scientist/Applied Scientist

Microsoft Start serves personalized, engaging and diverse news and interests
content to millions of customers on Windows and Edge surfaces. We want to
build the world's best content ecosystem by acquiring content from a variety
of content sources. We are constantly looking to understand our content
partners, their content and user engagement trends to make the right
investments in growing our content corpus in a relevant direction.

Responsibilities

As a Data Scientist/Applied Scientist focusing on recommendation systems, you
will play a pivotal role in enhancing and optimizing our recommendation
algorithms within our content ecosystem. Your primary responsibilities will
include:

‎1. Algorithm Development and Enhancement:
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement recommendation algorithms to drive content consumption for publishing partners.
* Optimize existing recommendation algorithms by analyzing performance metrics and user feedback, incorporating advanced machine learning techniques including generative AI techniques.

‎2. Data Analysis and Modeling:
* Analyze large datasets to identify patterns, trends, and content performance to improve the relevance and quality of our recommendation systems.
* Build predictive models using machine learning algorithms and statistical techniques to optimize content recommendations for various user segments.

‎3. Experimentation and A/B Testing:
* Design and conduct A/B tests to evaluate the performance of recommendation algorithms and propose iterative improvements based on the results. * Utilize experimentation results to iterate and fine-tune models, ensuring continuous improvement and impact on key business metrics.

‎4. Collaboration and Communication:
* Work closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into actionable data science initiatives. * Communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively, enabling informed decision-making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.


• ‎2-‎3 years of relevant work experience in data science, machine learning, or
  applied science, with a focus on recommendation systems.


• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with other programming
  languages like C#, C++ is a plus.


• Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, generative AI
  technologies, statistics, and data modeling techniques.


• Experience with recommendation systems, collaborative filtering, and
  personalization algorithms is a plus.


• Proficiency in data manipulation, cleaning, and analysis using SQL and/or
  other data processing tools.


• Familiarity with A/B testing methodologies and experiment design.


• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced,
  collaborative environment.


• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to effectively
  present and explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
