The Opportunity
As Silos Manager, you will ensure good practices, planning, and management
of the silo complex developing project according to USAID and industry
standards and state-of-the-art operational procedures. The Feed the Future
Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening Project (ERAS) is an eight-year USAID-
funded activity, supported by the U.S. governmenta€™s Feed the Future
initiative. The project aims improve the competitiveness of Egypta€™s
horticulture producers and related down-stream businesses and food processors.
The project promotes a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through
growth in selected horticultural sectors with special focus on securing
employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers.
Starting 2023 the project included wheat activity that enhance production and
postharvest to minimize loss and ensure food security. The project is aiming
to develop tow silos. Each silo is to hold 60,000 tons, one in Upper Egypt and
the other one is to be in Delta region. In addition to that the project will
develop another small scale three silos with a capacity of 10,000 tons each to
replace some Shonaa€™s in Upper Egypt and in Delta region.
The Silos Managera€™s working station will be at the project Cairo office. The
project is working in greater Cairo, Upper Egypt, and the Nile Delta, through
three strategic regional offices in Luxor, Minya and Gharbia, in addition to
the main office in Cairo. The projecta€™s implementation period is from August
1, 2018, to July 31, 2026
Core Responsibilities
* Ensure effective marketing of available grain as well as the marketing of all silo services including silo storage capacity.
* Oversee the daily reconciliation of grain stock including grain quality and quantity control.
* Ensure correct blending of grain in line with quality specifications.
* Ensure regular calibration and tests of all grading equipment.
* Ensure and monitor monthly progress of the project and recommend corrective action on deviations.
* Organize and cooperate with the different parties of the project and facilities any coming challenges.
* Develop regular reports and the coming action plans for the project.
* Build, manage and maintain sound relationships with internal and external clients.
* Monitor and manage capacity planning and bin allocation.
* Ensure effective use of the developed storage facility to maximise storage periods.
* recommend the coming dispatch rate of grain and identify events that have a negative impact on receipt and dispatch time and recommend improvements
* Identify and implement new opportunities at silo/bunker
* Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with applicable policies, the rail regulator and food safety legislation.
* Ensure a safe working environment in line with Health and Safety Policy and legislative requirements.
* Accurately and timeously capture and reconcile weekly and monthly reports and report any deviations
* Recruit and appoint competent employees, manage performance and resolve grievances, conflict and disciplinary issues in line with applicable HR policies.
What We Value
* Level 4: Bachelora€™s Degree + Ten years of relevant experience, or Mastera€™s Degree + Eight years of relevant experience, or PhD + Five years of relevant experience
* Level 5: Bachelora€™s Degree + Twelve years of relevant experience, or Mastera€™s Degree + Ten years of relevant experience, or PhD + Seven years of relevant experience
* M.Sc. in related field strongly preferred
* Qualified Grain Grader.
* Grading and Fumigating certificates.
* 12 years operational experience in handling and storage of grain
* Good verbal and written communication skills (English as well as Arabic).
* Good knowledge of the agricultural environment.
* Computer literacy (MS Office).
