The Financial Institutions Group, one of IFC's industry departments, supports
projects in numerous financial subsectors, partners with local financial
institutions, develops domestic and regional equity and debt markets and
introduces new financing instruments. The goal is to develop efficient
financial systems that will increase financial inclusion and fuel economic
growth in client countries and enhance IFC's developmental impact.

The Financial Institutions Group is recruiting an Associate Investment Officer
to join the Investment and Portfolio Team, which originates, manages and
monitors IFC's financial sector investments in Africa. The Investment Officer
will report to the Financial Institutions Group Manager, Investment, North
Africa, Horn of Africa, and Lusophone Africa.

The position will be based in Cairo, Egypt.

Duties and Accountabilities:

• Contribute to client discussions and engagement, and provide insight into sector developments in client countries to help deliver the investment program;


• Identify and analyze fundamental competitive strengths and weaknesses of investment opportunities or portfolio companies and identify financial and non-financial issues, opportunities and risk/reward factors (e.g. business environment, country, and sponsor);


• Execute IFC's financial institutions investments across the capital structure;


• Contribute to the due diligence and portfolio monitoring exercises;


• Evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close new transactions, portfolio restructurings, rescheduling, capital increases, equity sales;


• Contribute to the negotiation of documentation for new and existing investments;


• Manage investments in portfolio, including both financial and development results;


• Contribute to drafting strategies for sectors, countries, or regions for business development.

Selection Criteria
* Masters in Finance, MBA or equivalent qualification;
* A minimum of ‎8 years of relevant experience covering the financial sector, preferably in an investment related function;
* Excellent understanding of financial and operational characteristics of financial institutions;
* Experience in emerging markets;
* Sound transaction execution skills;
* Strong financial and credit skills and demonstrated ability to structure a variety of complex financial instruments (debt and equity);
* Sound business judgment and strong problem solving/negotiation skills, as well as ability to work effectively on simultaneous projects under time pressure;
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic;
* Genuine interest in development finance and working in a multicultural environment.
