The United Nations Human Settlements (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations
system's designated entity for addressing and promoting socially and
environmentally sustainable human settlements, development, and the
achievement of adequate shelter for all (www.unhabitat.org).UN-Habitat
Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) was established in ‎2011 in Cairo,
Egypt, and provides technical cooperation and capacity building for ‎18
countries across the Arab region. The Regional Office promotes and implements
policies, programs, and operational projects in UN-Habitat's focus areas at
regional, national, and local levels, aimed at achieving sustainable urban
development in the countries of the region, and provides technical cooperation
services upon request from governments. UN-Habitat ROAS covers all the
operational activities and projects in ‎18 countries across the Arab Region,
with ‎12 active country programs.


UN-Habitat Regional Office for the Arab States works towards supporting
countries in the Arab region to achieve sustainable urbanization through
normative and operational work, technical support, and advice on urban
policies. The regional office also works with partners and stakeholders to
implement the UN-Habitat Strategic Plan ‎2020-‎2025, which emphasizes achieving
tangible results in four main domains of change, namely: reducing inequality
and poverty, shared prosperity in cities and regions, promoting climate action
and urban environments, and preventing crisis and response in urban areas. The
intern will work under the direct supervision of UN-Habitat, Regional Office
for Arab States, Cairo, Egypt, Knowledge Management and Reporting Officer.


The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Regional Office
for Arab States, Cairo, Egypt Internship is for ‎6 (six) months.


In the context of the COVID-‎19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to
undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa
issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be
willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the
entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be
determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the
supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the
Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the
location of the intern.


The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.


Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the
department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the
interns' assigned office as well as the internship period.


Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer interns will:
* Assist in programme development through research, analysis, and presentation of critical issues.
* Support the timely delivery of knowledge management and reporting tasks.
* Support the smooth operation of the regional Project Review Committee process.
* Support UN-Habitat's effective representation and active engagement in regional mechanisms.


Specific tasks may include:
* Conduct research and literature review on critical thematic issues.
* Support the Programme Officer with the drafting and visualization of presentations and concept notes.
* Keep track/follow up on schedules, deadlines, and action points for various projects.
* Coordinate data collection, verification, consolidation, organization, and submission from regional colleagues, partners, and stakeholders.
* Keep meeting minutes and action points at UN-Habitat-led meetings.
* Support the design and maintenance of the filing system.
* Support the design and delivery of knowledge exchange mechanisms between programmes and projects.
* Provide logistical support on activities such as organizing and reporting conferences, events, training courses, etc.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to
client.
Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following
requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or
equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program
(minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent


Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office).


Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a
personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.


Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of
different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include a willingness to try
and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.


Preferred areas of studies:
International Relations, Political Science, Management, Business
Administration, or a related field.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship
Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should
benefit the United Nations during your internship.


A recognized first degree in international relations, political science,
management, business administration, or a related field is desirable.


Experience in writing reports or articles is required.


Experience in managing and disseminating project or program-produced knowledge
is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations
Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English
is required. Knowledge of Arabic or French is an asset.

United Nations Considerations
According to article ‎101, paragraph ‎3, of the Charter of the United Nations,
the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of
