The successful candidate will work as Research Assistant in the ASPIRE
Research Institute for Food Security in the Drylands. This institute features
a comprehensive and highly interdisciplinary R&D; program and provides an
international collaboration platform for researchers and stakeholders of the
public and private food and agricultural sector. It strives to generate
knowledge and technological innovation in support of food security in the UAE
and other arid environments of the world.
As part of one of its research themes, the institute is aiming at developing
innovative technologies for the integration of horticultural crop production
into urban buildings and public parks. To support this research, we are
seeking to hire an ambitious young researcher in the field of horticulture.
The successful candidate is expected to work independently and as part of an
international and interdisciplinary team on experiments in the laboratory,
greenhouse, or open field. Experience with the handling of soilless production
systems, as well as fruit and vegetable cultivation is of great advantage. We
further appreciate interest in horticultural production technologies, such as
environmental control, lighting systems and automation.
Expected is a repertoire of established analytical methods in the field of
biochemical and physiological plant analysis, plus the proven ability to
prepare manuscripts for publication in impacted international research
journals.
Working place is the campus of the United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain,
including its experimental stations. The position is for a period of nine
months, with the possibility of extension on an annual basis.
Minimum Qualification
Master's degree in the field of horticulture, agriculture, plant sciences, or
a related discipline.
