JOB SUMMARY


The Head Nurse- OPD consults with the Nursing Director concerning
administrative, professional and clinical issues, and assumes operational
responsibility of the OPD, NMC and GUST. Manages and coordinates the unit;
directs and supervises functions and activities; interprets policies,
procedures, standards and regulations as appropriate. Performs duties in any
nursing capacity as needed.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Maintains established departmental policies & procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Takes corrective action in the event of violations.

  • Prepares and oversees work schedules; assigns personnel to patients based on acuteness of patient care needs and staff availability.

  • Evaluates work performance and make recommendations for personnel actions.

  • Directs maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff.

  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with Hospital standards.

  • Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department. Periodically reviews department's policies and procedures, updates and amends with current information.

  • Ensures accurate maintenance of patients' medical records and confidentiality of information contained therein. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.

  • Prepares quarterly report of all assigned activities.

  • Identifies and reports to the Nursing Director, areas of nursing care delivery that requires in-service education and initiates action to correct the problem.

  • Maintains awareness of ongoing Quality Assurance studies within the unit; assists in the implementation of corrective actions determined necessary.

  • Adjusts staffing to meet needs and to provide adequate coverage of unit during off shift and consults the department manager for long term staff adjustments.

  • Consults with Nursing Administration concerning management of assigned units and all related matters. Initiates activities that promotes nursing and generates new avenues for increase of revenues.

  • Assists attending physicians and aids patients and families as needed in times of stress or crisis.

  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops

  • Attends meetings as required, and actively participates on committee as directed.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Nursing Director.

JOB REQUIREMENTS* *


Education :
Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Nursing preferably with Post Basic/Graduate
Certificate/Diploma in Ambulatory Nursing Care. Current CPR/BLS certification.
1st Line Management Certificate/Diploma is an advantage. Licensing: Valid
License from Ministry of Health to work as a Registered Nurse


Experience :
‎7 years ' clinical experience, preferably with ‎5 years in Emergency/Ambulatory
Care Facility. ‎3 years' work experience as a Head/In-charge in the same field
and /or ‎2 years in a supervisory post. Service for more than ‎5 years in NMH is
preferred.


OTHER SKILLS:*
Technical: Knowledge and proficiency in fundamental nursing procedures
such as IV Therapy, ECG vitals, medication administration and drug
calculation, proper wound management, naso-gastric tube insertion,
documentation, etc. Knowledge of sterilization techniques, safety measures,
good hygiene, environmental sanitation and infection control standards.
Acquainted in different medical apparatus or equipment.
. Administrative Skills: Decision Making and Teaching skills;
Self-
Motivated, Flexible and Adaptable; Ability to Multi-Task, take Initiative,
Assess, Organize ,Prioritize and Work under pressure without supervision
Soft Skills: Excellent Communication and Inter-personal skills.
Computer Skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet Language
Skills:
* Good in written and spoken English, Arabic is an advantage.


PHYSICAL & WORKING CONDITIONS
* Works primarily in an air conditioned, well-lighted and comfortable health care facility, while also exposed to infections and close contact with the patients.
* May have to work long hours, in shifts and be available to deal with departmental exigencies
* Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking and moving. Occasional reaching, stooping, bending and kneeling.
* May experience work related pressure.
