Collects and performs the analysis of blood gas samples using electronic
analytical equipment. Performs routine procedural steps of laboratory tests.
Performs minor equipment maintenance.
1. Performs blood gas analysis procedures in accordance with Department
approved policies.
2. Enters, verifies and edits parameters and results into the Hospital
Information System and forwards test results to requesting unit.
3. Performs and documents preventive maintenance, calibrations, and quality
control standards daily, weekly and monthly on all blood analysis instruments
within the Department.
4. Repairs or performs minor troubleshooting of blood gas instrument when a
problem develops, and notifies Supervisor or Therapist of problems to ensure
continuity of work.
5. Maintains ongoing Quality Control database.
6. Assists with stocking and inventory of supplies used by the Blood Gas labs
and RCS.
7. Assists with departmental workload statistics gathering and record
keeping.
8. Assists with the processing and decontamination of respiratory equipment
and supplies.
9. Assists with minor respiratory care procedures under the supervision of a
Respiratory Therapist / Technician.
10. Responsible for setting up, monitoring, and troubleshooting of the Blood
Gas Lab remote monitoring system.
11. Works in accordance with standards established by the Joint Commission on
Accreditation of Hospitals and the College of American Pathologists.
12. Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.
13. Participates in self and others ' education, training, and development,
as applicable.
Education**
Bachelor or Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or other related
discipline is required.
Grade 7:
One (1) year of related experience with Bachelor 's or two (2) years with
Associate Degree/Diploma is required.
Grade 8:
Four(4) years as Medical Laboratory Technician, Respiratory Care at KFSH&RC.
Average of annual performance appraisal at least (3.5) for the last four (4)
years. Fifty (50) hours of cumulative continued medical education [CME] is
required.
Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health
Specialties (SCHS) is required.
