Director of Engineering

**The Director of Engineering forms part of the Hotel Leadership team who

collectively make key strategic and operational decisions for the Hotel.
The Director oversees a team of Engineering and Maintenance specialists
responsible for all engineering operations for interior/exterior facilities
including plumbing, refrigeration, heating/cooling, painting, carpentry,
structural, recycling, electrical, ground care and parking areas. The Director
is also responsible for Life/Fire safety systems, energy/green initiative
systems and management of other engineering work necessary to maintain the
property in an efficient condition to ensure the safety and comfort of guests
and employees.
We are looking for individuals who have solid project management skills,
evidence a strong work/ethic, adaptability and flexibility and leadership
skills.
People key activities:
* Oversees the assignment of duties, responsibilities and workstations of employees in Maintenance Team
* Observes and evaluates employees and work procedures to ensure quality standards and services are met
* Approves personnel actions such as new hire requests and discharges, to ensure proper staffing. Provides final approval for overtime needs.
* Mentors, develops and provides on-the-job training to subordinates to strengthen their current performance and preparation for future development.
* Utilizes and administers the disciplinary action process through coaching and counselling to improve performance or terminate employment
* The ability to hire, train, motivate, supervise, schedule, positively discipline and plan the work product of base hotel engineering team members.
* The ability to complete, evaluate and follow-up on employee performance reviews and six month's progress reports on a timely basis for base hotel/resort with follow-up support for region hotel/resorts.
Product key activities:
* Establishes procedures and tests for the operation, maintenance, preventive maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment and facility furnishings
* Evaluates and recommends the repair or modification based on such factors such as environment, service, costs and system capabilities.
* Inspects installation progress, including electronic equipment, instruments, products and systems to ensure compliance with established specifications, safety standards, and applicable local codes and regulations
* Enforces and follows HACCP standards, safety standards and environmental standards
* Implements Four Seasons's brand standards for the facility function.
* Reviews audit comments, discusses with the management, and implements audit recommendations
* Investigates and resolves facility quality and service complaints in a timely fashion, and always with a view to exceeding the expectations of our guests.
* Foresee Mechanical/Electrical concerns that may arise as a result of construction phase, equipment purchases and/or installations.
* Ensure Life, Fire, Safety equipment and installations are up to standard and feasibility studies during the construction phase for early detection change orders implementation.
* Experienced in construction phase area to secure retrieval, and filing of construction documents, permits, licensing, feasibility studies, manuals, mechanical, electrical, wiring diagrams, hydraulics, blueprint updates, and testing and storage of necessary equipment and material, parts, etc.
* Ensure that effective and concise Preventive Maintenance schedules, Perfect Rooms Program procedures are followed in accordance with local rules and regulations.
Profit key activities:
* Reviews financial transactions and monitors budget to ensure efficient operation, and to ensure expenditures stay within budget limitations
* Constantly reviews current operating procedures for cost reduction opportunities and energy saving opportunities.
* Reviews for final approval requisition estimates for product replacements, supplies, parts, equipment, machinery, purchases, etc.
* Assists with the development of long-range plans, conceptual designs, and capital outlay requirements and documentation for the Hotel.
* Maintains maintenance cost at reasonable levels without affecting quality and standards
* Tracks maintenance schedules on computerized system
* Keeps track of requisitions/orders to ensure the departments never exhausts any resources
* Conducts workstation spot checks to ensure items are correctly stored and utilized to minimize waste
* Plan and implement procedures, systems and controls to ensure an efficient, timely and pro-active Engineering and Security Region
* Reviewing, analysing & giving progress updates on AMC maintenance contracts, planned preventive maintenance (PPM), P&L for POMEC R&M Utilities and Projects
* Compile a monthly consumption report on heat, light and power to include electricity, gas, steam and water.

Technical skills and knowledge:
* Must be in possession of a Degree in Engineering
* Require knowledge of and the ability to operate computer equipment and Microsoft Office
* Ability to read, write and speak English
* A working knowledge of hotel systems and operations.
* Strategic, analytical and have solid business acumen
* Extensive knowledge of maintenance processes and environmental standards with regard to public health
* Extensive working knowledge of various products, systems and the associated maintenance of galley or kitchen, plumbing, carpentry, sound and light
* Ability to manage the international staff in a positive and productive manner be motivating, developing and managing employees as they work. Ability to utilize and administer the disciplinary action process through coaching and counselling to improve performance or terminate employment.
* Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal service including needs assessment, problem resolution and achievement of quality service standards
* Ability to read drawings, documentation, instructions, or specifications regarding modifications, enhancements, etc.
