Position Summary
The copyeditor can bring an editorial skill to create or enhance KAPSARC
Arabic outputs, especially things related to technical content, with a
perspective to evaluate the content in detail, enhance, and fix any mistakes
overlooked by the translator or the author while communicating with the
experts at various stages of the process. Additionally, the editor will ensure
all output conforms to KAPSARC style and editorial policy and validate for
consistency with the relevant style manual.
Major Responsibilities
* Read and understand text material and research energy, economics, and policy terminology
* Create and develop KAPSARC Arabic outputs especially things related to technical content
* Enhance experts' or translators' work to a high -level of Arabic writing.
* High ability to write and create different types of Arabic outputs such as articles, reports, and others.
* Copyedit and find and correct inconsistencies and errors
* Ensuring Arabic text conveys original meaning and tone
* Work closely with the authors to truly interpret their content
* Ensure compliance with KAPSARC style and citations guidelines
* Coordinate with all writers to ensure every written piece is edited and promptly returned to the original writer for finalization
* Follow up with authors and other team members to ensure the editorial process is moving smoothly
Competencies
* Fluent in Arabic and English
* Knowledge of the energy, economics, and policy terminology
* Knowledge and expertise in handling Microsoft Office software and other tools as needed
* Excellent interpersonal, time management and communication skills
* Ability to work with internal and external teams and partners
* Could manage a pool of Arabic freelance editors, if needed
* Ability to work under pressure
* Independent and able to self-manage workload
Qualifications
* Master's degree or higher in Arabic language, communications, translation, literature, linguistics or relevant field
* At least 10 years of experience with Bachelor's Degree in copy editing in a similar field
* Proven experience in editing academic publications
* Bilingual (English, Arabic)
* Exceptional attention to detail, grammar and logical story construction
* Ability to copyedit and identify and correct inconsistencies and errors
