Architectural Inspector

Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Architectural Inspector to
join our team!
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under general supervision, performs difficult and sometimes complex inspection
tasks. Inspects various facets of work on the jobsite and performs continuous
surveillance of assigned inspection activities to ensure compliance with all
applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Documents nonconformance and
may participate in determining appropriate resolution. Inspection activities
are usually concentrated in one of the following areas: soils, concrete,
asphalt, utilities, architectural, mechanical, or electrical. Willingness to
travel and/or to relocate to field sites is expected. Performs work in safe
manner and is cognizant of public safety.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts inspections to determine if work has been done in accordance with
contract specifications and may include any of the following:
* Demolition of transportation facilities (roads, streets, bridges etc.)
* Construction of roads, bridges, and other associated improvements (curb and gutter, street, sidewalk, landscaping)
* Drainage work, traffic control, compliance with SWPPP requirements
* Installation of electrical equipment related to traffic signals, ramp metering and street lighting
* Irrigation and planting, roadway and overhead sign removal and installation.
* Installation on temporary and permanent signs and delineation
* Installation of mechanical equipment
* Building and facility construction and associated site development
* Taking project photographs on a daily basis and filing them

In addition:
* Maintains office files related to the project, quantity calculations and writes daily diaries.
* Prepares daily reports and other documentation, as required by the contract
* Verifies that only approved materials are incorporated in the work.
* Performs labor compliance interviews and maintains as-built plans.
* Recognizes potential conflicts, issues and problems, and reports to supervisor with proposed solution.
* Collects, reviews and files Certificate of Compliance, MSDS, inspection tags and other information relevant to the materials used.
* May provide technical guidance to lower-level inspectors.
* Coordinates work of subconsultants for surveying and material testing.
* Participates in the development of job safety practices and in the preparation of safety reports.
* Participates in the development of quality control reports and procedures.
* Reports on installed quantities to verify applications for payment and change order work.
* Responds to the call backs in case of emergency at the project site.
* May administer welder qualification tests.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be
appropriate.

Supervision Received -Construction Management (all levels); Project Manager
(all levels);
Supervision Given - Lower-level inspectors (technical guidance only)
Internal Contacts - All employees on project
External Contacts - Clients; Suppliers; Subcontractors

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Associate's Degree in a technical discipline or construction-related field, or
a high school diploma and equivalent work experience, is required. Also
requires typically ‎5+ years of related experience on field projects, as well
as formal certification from an independent organization, depending on type of
inspection assignment. Some knowledge of public works contracts may be
preferred. Construction safety training including OSHA ‎10 hour training.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications and be thoroughly
familiar with construction-related processes related to the area of
assignment. Knowledge of English grammar and composition, the ability to
communicate clearly both orally and in writing; to follow oral and written
instructions, prepare written messages and simple charts and graphs.
Capability to perform math calculation in order to prepare engineering
calculations, graphs and charts. Proficiency with basic computer usage,
Microsoft Office, Project Management Software and internet search engines
(like Google or equivalent). Ability to comply with multitude of requirements
as applicable to the project based on client and industry standards. Must have
thorough understanding of scheduling, and the ability to review progress pay
estimates and extra work bills. Must be able to recognize hazardous work
conditions and take action if necessary. Ability to use good judgment and work
with others is required. Requires ability to climb ladders, inspect work above
ground, and work in confined spaces. Requires ability to lift up to ‎50 lbs.
(i.e. lifting materials used for testing of concrete, AC, etc.).
